I had my mid-life crisis at age 42, married with a 14 year old daughter. A sweet young 28 year old thing hit on me and I took the bait and ran with it for all of 6 days. Got caught of course and it cost me dearly. Buying a corvette of any vintage is CHEAP in comparison.

Glad I don't have your friends. At 66, they's probably ask if the Vette had anything to do with my "end of life crisis." (Those who know me are aware I've had Vettes since late 1961.)

Haha, using that logic, my midlife crisis started at 16 when I got one of these:

I give them an answer that shuts them up. "Just tell me why you felt you needed to ask me such a rude question." Flusters them every time.

These jerks are envious of what you have because THEY don't have it and they have to try to make you feel small because they feel that way about themselves.

Yes, you are having a mid life crisis,...........the crisis is the ownership of slow boring cars,..........that has now been taken care of............no more crisis.

A Corvette was the cure,............dont you love simple things that take away the pain of being trapped your entire life in an Accord or Camry ?

Most remarks come from people that are jealous of you because they can’t afford a nice car.

I bought my car 5 yrs ago and got all kinds of those comments, you know like" you must make a lot of money" or the mid-life thing, I was 45 then, so... I look at it like this the wife green-lighted me for a new ride, so I looked and did some research and C5 Corvette was the best car I could afford. I couldn't have bought any old muscle car in the same condition, reliability, power, or cool-*** car factor as my C5 for what I paid for it. When people would say "oh they must pay you a lot" I would laugh and say for what you paid for your truck you could have bought 6 of my car. When people would say mid-life crap I would just take them for a ride and then they understand.

I say drive what you like when you can afford it, who cares what others think.

I was going to reply to the guy that he is still in his 30's, said 39 and something about I'm 43, then after reading a lot of replies realized the thread was old.

I'm not older, he is! I was 30 when he was 39. Lol
Anyways young guys get "is that your dad's car?"

Not so young it's "midlife crisis"

About 1994 or so I was riding with my brother, we went to a gas station and there was a C4 Corvette someone was driving looked brand new, I was looking at it and my brother said "I bet he has a tiny dick"

I was 16 or 17 and that was the first time I had ever heard anyone say something like that so I said "why did you say that"

He explained he was jealous and it's something people say when someone has a nice car, looking back he was driving a 1985 Isuzu P'up, if anyone remembers those. 😂

Got my 1999 6 speed convertible at 25 years old, always wanted one but it just happened that day by accident, driving down road it caught my eye on a car lot, out of corner of my eye, later drove home with it.

Crisis? No, a crisis would be wanting a Corvette but no being able to afford one. Not THAT would be a real crisis!

I've had people say to me, "You have a lot of nice cars. You must be rich". I reply, "No. I spent all money money on these stupid cars so now I'm poor". That shuts them up!

Heard all those midlife little dik comments from a few women I dated.
They hated corvettes period, wouldnt be seen in one. They were a "redneck", "fatmans" car etc.
Vettes are not a hit with Ca women for sure.

This is a VERY old thread, but it does still seem to apply. I was 33, married, and owned my own home when I bought my Corvette. I certainly wasn't so young that I got "daddy's money" comments. I wasn't even close to being old enough for a mid-life crisis. I guess I have been lucky in that regard. I've wanted a Corvette ever since I could drive. I got one as soon as I could do so in a financially responsible manner. The car has been paid off for many years now (although if you average it out, I'm probably still paying a car payment's worth a month on mods). I didn't buy this car to impress people or pick up women. I bought it because I wanted it, and it brings me joy. I love driving it. I love looking at it. I love working on it. In the end, that's all that matters. Who cares what other people say or think (though I do admit I enjoy it when people compliment my car), as long as I enjoy the car. The advice I would give to anyone who buys a Corvette is that as long as it brings you joy (and you can afford it), who cares about anything else.
