Im torn
I used to frequent this fourm alot about 7 years ago. i had a c4 lt1. Sold it a few years back and am now retired and want another vette. Problem is im torn. I dont know if i want a 05 with the 400 hp motor or a c5 z06. Which is quicker? By how much? Which would you choose. Probably a stupid question seeing that im on the z06 forum.

I've read time and time again that the C5Z edges out the earlier C6's. Tough call. May the best driver win. I suggest doing a search too. This topic has been covered many times.

I have driven a 400hp C6 and I daily drive an 02Z with minor mods (about 25hp worth). The choice between these cars is very very simple and depends on what you want the car for. Most on here seem to think that a C5Z usually seems to edge out an LS2 C6 on the track and my experience is no different. The difference though is in the driving experience of the 2. The C6 is a Cadillac compared to the C5Z. If you want rough, loud and fast get the C5Z. If you want refined (and still fast) go for the C6. Just my $.02

If you are looking for more of a daily driver I think the C6 interior and better seats will appeal. If this is not your primary driver and would like to get more of a "race car fix" the I would go with the C5Z. The C5Z weighs less, has less sound dampening material and a louder exhaust, and lower gear ratios. Also, if you plan to mod the car you will find a ton of info on the Gen III LS motors.

Sorry guys, but I consider my 02 ZO6 about as "Raw and Mean" as a Buick. After reading so much about how loud the exhaust on a ZO6 was, how firm the ride was, etc. I couldn't believe it when I finally drove one. Compared to the 03 SVT Cobra I sold to buy this car, it may as well be a Cadillac!
Don't get me wrong: I love the fact that my car has tremendous performance potential along with luxury car refinement. But compared to any other muscle car the C5 ZO6 is as smooth as silk, IMHO...

Owning a modded C5 Z06, I am a little biased, but the C6 offers far better seats, better lighting and more refinement. I thought my lowered Z was gonna ride terrible but that's not the case, many who ride in it are amazed at how compliant it is for a lowered hard core Z. For me, it would come down to what I could get into each car for, price wise. I was in the same boat you are back in October when I found my car on here and basically stole it for 30K with all the mods already done. The earlier C6s are coming down in price now and low mileage C5 Zs are out there for between 25k and 32k depending on mileage and year. Also, there are more speed parts available with every passing day for the C6s and the LS2s are just as responsive to mods as the LS6. So I would go for the newest, lowest mileage C6 I could afford with the bonus of better resale value down the road and possibly find one still under warranty. Good luck bro, either way, you won't be dissappointed.
