Dead HID ballast, warranty?
A few months ago I installed the ACA headlights and just recently a ballast went bad. I've located a replacement but the cheapest I've found is $170. Would this be a warranty item? If so, through the ballast manufacturer or the vendor? I wrote an email to the vendor but it was after hours. Looking for an outside opinion.

My vendor offers 17 months on bulbs and ballasts...
Don't know whether it is actually him or the manufacturer, but the warranty claims are made through the vendor

I contacted the vendor and was told that it is a warranty item but if there was water damage that it is iffy and would take 2-3 weeks to have a replacement. The vendor instead offered me the same ballast at close to cost including shipping that I would have in a week. I took that option as it was more convenient and less down time.

I can understand that a vendor is not going to send replacement parts without inspecting the defective part to see if it was damaged during install etc., but if the part failed through no fault of yours, you shouldn't have to pay anything. Warranty claims are factored into the selling price of products.
Edit:
Taken from post #9. "The ballast failed most likely b/c of water damage."
An important fact you failed to mention in your original post.
Now I understand why the vendor didn't want to cover it under warranty.

So he had one to sell you but didn't have one to cover your warranty claim.
How about you send him the bad one back now, and if it didn't have water damage, he can refund your money.

From what you describe, it sounds like that vendor is not interested in providing service after the sale, and took the easiest way out.....for him.

I am very pleased with their service. The ballast failed most likely b/c of water damage. As I stated, I decided to purchase a new ballast that was offered at a discount, that made it worth it, among many other options including the option of sending it in. I did not want to wait. Again, they have been awesome. They always answer emails promptly. The phone is not answered by an automated operator but always answered by a knowledgeable person.

I have plenty of ballasts here in town too, but not for the ACA kit. The ACA kits have a different plug from the ballast to fit the D1S or D2S projector bulbs. Most HID vendors should know that.
