Default Royal Purple 5W30 Synthetic Oil

My son-in-law says this oil is the best thing going out there for the LS1corvette engine. He puts it in his. I use Mobil 1 5W30 in mine. Does anybody out there have any experience or knowledge about this Royal Purple Oil? I want to make sure that my Vette gets the Royal Treatment all the time but not sure about this Royal Purple Oil...Please help me make a decision...Thanks Tim

Royal Purple is great oil for sure, It really depends on what you are doing with your car, In some cases it might be overkill for the price difference, Mobil 1 is also great oil and will give your car great protection, If you are going to race the car hard on the weekends on the track I would most likely use RP, But I think for the street and some sprited driving Mobil 1 is great.
You will pay about 7-9 bucks more for oil change with RP.

Mobil1 is the best selling synthetic engine oil in the world. It is made by the largest oil companay in the world. (Read deepest pockets if there is a problem)
Now why would you want to spend 2x the $$$$ for some gimmickly stuff that needs to call itself Royual and be dyed Purple to justiy the price...
As the old saying goes... you can buy better but you can't pay more....

Just my 2 cents....

From what I have heard, Royal Purple is a good synthetic oil, but then again so is Mobil 1. I ran Mobil 1 in mine and never had any complaints.

This is a bit extreme, lol. Royal Purple is great oil if you know anything about racing, It isn't 2x the money.
Mobil 1= 6.50 and RP 7.45 at Summit, Not even close to 2 times the money, As I said before, If someone plans to race there car use RP if not Mobil 1 will do the job just fine. But under extreme running I would go RP.

Probably the best synthetic in the world is Amsoil, they stand behind their 25,000 mile oil changes and will pay to replace any damages that may occur in between oil changes. It's extremely overkill for these engines unless they are being run to their limits... i really don't see any justifications using anything more expensive then mobile 1... I was using amsoil for a while but with their 35$ oil filters and 12$ a quart I really saw no difference with my other vehicles I used them on... but i guess it depends how deep your pockets are.

I run R P in my trans and rear end,,quite satisfied!! I too think for most the oil is overkill,,a great product, but unless you can find a good discount (especially when you find sale prices on Mobile 1) for stock conditions you don't need it.Nitrous or boosted is another story,,would defiantly go R P!!

Don't you mean Grape & vanilla??????

Both are good oils. Amsoil is also good but not worth the $$ in my opinion unless the car will sit for a long time between starts. (museum cars)......JMO.

I like RP, I use it too. I read a few independent comparisons where it was used in tests and RP came out above Mobil 1. But on a street car you aren't going to notice a difference between RP and Mobil 1. It will still last just as long and perform just as well.

Splitting hairs IMO.

The guy that invented Royal Purple was a chemist with one of those 'major oil companies' for 40 years before he retired and took some of the knowledge he acquired over that time and created his own oils. As stated here already, for most people it is probably overkill, but then again, how much is 'too much' protection for your engine? I have met someone recently that is a RP distributor, so I'm going to try it for my next oil change. He (the distributor) swears that it's the best oil you can put in any internal combustion engine, period. And for those of us that will used RP in our trucks, this distributor recommends Baldwin filters. Never heard of them myself, but when he takes his truck in to get the oil changed, (at 10,000 miles, no less) he says the oil isn't dirty or black at all, it looks just as good as when he put it in there. (He changes filters every 5K, oil at 10K)

If you want to split hairs on what brand of oil to use go over to the BITOG website and check out comments by the oil gurus. They base their opinions on used oil analysis (UOAs). M1 is okay but not perfect by any means, especially since the formulation was changed a couple of years ago. The average driver will likely never see any benefit from the extra expense of boutique oils such as RP or Amsoil.

Lots of BITOG guys including myself are running Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. Good UOAs, relatively cheap, available everywhere and is on the approved oil list from GM in case anyone is still under warranty

I have been using Royal Purple in all my cars/bikes for many years now. I use their gear oil & tranny fluid too.
I have read all about them and it is by far a better product than Mobil 1
I am not saying Mobil 1 is not good but surely not as good as RP.
Go to their web and you will see whey they re better.

I'm a RP guy, For the people that think it's overkill that maybe true but at least I KNOW I safe with it. I don't mine a few bucks here and there if it give me a better piece of mine. I'll stick with the RP ...Love it!
