Unique new LED setup [Pics]
Ever since the Audi R8 came out, I've been a big fan of how they have incorporated their daytime running lights.
For those who are not familiar with the R8, this is how it looks.
For a while now, I've been wanting to do something similar to this with my clear corners. I recently bought a strip light LED set for putting lighting under my doors. These LED strips are low profile and flexible with self adhesive backing so I thought they would be a perfect way to try this.
I got a pair and gave it a shot, here's how it came out.
This is how they look with the amber portion of my switchback DRLs.
These are the actual lights used, you can get them at your local Autozone.
The lights are stuck to the outside of the lense. Originally I wanted to try to mount them on the inside. I tried cracking open an old set of lenses I had lying around by baking them in the oven but I only succeeded in cracking the housings.
These LED strips are very low profile, so installing them on the outside looks just as good. The strips slid behind the bumper cover and tucked in nicely.
I wired the strips into the corner lights so that they will only come on when my parking lights or my headlights are on. I could have wired them to be on all the time, but for now I will keep the option of just having them on at night.
As usual, pics hardly do these kids of mods justice, but I think they turned out awesome! Then again I'm a BIG fan of LEDs anyway.

I think that looks great, I'm thinking about doing something similar to mine, but a high output amber strip. the LED bulbs I have in my diamond cut housings are not bright enough for me.

can you show me a pic of what it looks like when its off? there are a few good sources for LED strips like that, but some of them are best left where you can't see the strip, just the light. if its going on the outside it would have to look nice also.

I've been thiking about ways to get more light inside the front singal lenses ever since I got my C5. I've come up with some good ideas, but I'm not sure any of them are really feasible. I've come to the same conclusion as you, outside is about the best you can get.
that looks really good! I have the clear/clear lenses, so it will show up more on mine, but I don't think it would look bad at all.
