Do You Have An Original AC Delco Battery?
I posted a thread recently giving my thoughts on battery performance in this car. After some inputs from some of the Forum members it became clear that there are different types of AC Delcos out there.
In short:
97-01 These were built by Delphi and have the weak side posts
01-03 These were redesigned but still had side posts but should have been stronger
03-04 These are also built by Johnson Controls and should be trouble free.
The question is do you still have a pre 01 battery and are you aware of the risks of leaking? If you have an old one have you checked for leaks recently.
You might want to read up on some ideas:

Still have mine. Been almost 5 years now. Been drained a few times ( don't ask how or why but mostly because the interior is dis-assembled and some interior lights are left on ) but always comes back after being recharged. ( Knock on wood)

I replaced the battery in my 99 last year. I didn't NEED to, but when I removed the old battery I did notice some corrosion on the battery tray. Not enough to cause damage though, I suppose it was a good idea to swap when I did. I bought a top shelf battery from Autozone with a warranty as a replacement and put an acid mat underneath for good measure.

I replaced my '04's battery last year. It was still starting the car OK but I was getting all kinds of error codes in the DIC, like "check charging system" and my seat memory would screw up, and similar faults. I put a new Duralast Gold in from Autozone, the car is perfect. I have even had the car sit for an entire month, then tap the key and it rips into life. The original battery had issuses if you ask me.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. Not enough to do damage but when I had the front fenders off I could see where the acid dripped on top of the computer modular-pretty scary. I didn't even know it was leaking.

My 02' OE died of shaken battery syndrome after some spirited runway passes last fall. It's buried in Wisconsin (R.I.P.).

it's not the original battery, but I've had the same Delco Professional replacement in my Olds for 9 years. still spinning the 455 without any problems. it does stay on a maintainer type charger.

All is good on mine!
I do not use the original battery but I do have an after market one that still retains the side posts!
No leaks and all looks good underneath it - I check frequently - Just incase
Thanks,Matt

When I was buying my C5, I had them replace the AC Delco one as part of my pre-buy inspection. I was armed with lots of information when I was buying, so they didn't flinch when I asked about it. I assume that I got the Johnson Control unit, as all of this happened in 2005. I haven't had any issues at all with it.
My buddy who has a C6 tells me that his battery will die in 5 days if not started.....

I have no idea what battery is in mine.
It looks like a GM battery with the vents and the green eye, but it has both top and side posts. If it had a label on it, it's long gone so I have no idea what battery this is.
I plan on getitng a new 6 year Delco Professional battery this spring yet.

Replaced mine this year 04 CE. Started getting bad codes and other bazaar indications. Put in a Sears Die hard Platinum. It is guaranteed not to need a battery tender for 2 years of idle time. It has side post and top post.

Just replaced the one in my 04 CE this year. Never a problem and then went to start the car one day after sitting for a while and,,, nothing.
Installed an Optima Red Top and works great. Do keep a battery tender on it though.

Original Battery ?
I Have The Original Battery In My 04 Z06 That I Bought New In June Of 2004. Due To Driving A Company Car I Drive My Vette Very Little, And Some Times It Sits For Up To 6 To 8 Weeks With No Tender And Has So Far Started With No Problems. ( It Will Probably Die On Me Now That I Have "bragged On It".) I Have Been Thinking About Replacing It Because It Is Almost 4 Yrs. Old Now, And Also Due To The Maggie Intercooler Tank Being Mounted On Top Of The Battery Making It More Difficult To Remove/replace It. I Have Two Of The Braille Batteries On Order For My Race Car And Thinking Of Possibly Installing One In The Vette.
