Bone Stock Zs
Im curious to know how many C5Z06 owners out there have a totally stock car (with exc. of aft mkt cai and tune)? I would also like to hear some of the reasons why they want to keep their cars stock. The guys in my car club had a pretty intense discussion about it and I wanted to hear the opinions from forum members. Thanks!

Well, I've only had my Z for 3 months, but it's totally stock and I have no intentions of doing any modifications to it. It's has plenty of power, handles great, and even gets good gas mileage. It's more than enough for the street.
If I decide to track it more often, I'll buy a track specific car that I can make go faster.

Mine has a Haltech intake and a tune. Thats it for the power mods. I use my car for autox and track events. It is more than enough power as it sits. Some day I will install a set of LG LT's mainly for the weight loss and being able to get the heat out of the motor.

My 04 Z06 is stock.....the brakes are not.
Anyone who can use ALL of the stock power of the Z06 on track "may" want to mod. However, for most, the existing power and handling limits are far above the driver's limits.....in spite of their wildest dreams.

Stone stock (I do have CLB installed but I don't guess that counts). With roads here slicker than snot, I have trouble putting the available power down so I can't see adding more.
For me, reliability is most important since it is semi daily driver. I bought it to drive it. About the only change planned is maybe a carputer to take the place of the Bose. For me, the only reason to upgrade anything else would be if the original part broke and I perceive the replacement to be of better design. And I like having a hot rod sports car that I can pretty much drive in most climates (I don't do snow) on available fuels and have plenty of power with good economy.

I've only had mine for a few weeks but it's completely stock and I don't have any plans to do major mods. I can never really open it up as it is. Sure, there's the occasional freeway onramp, but that's good for what, 4 seconds or so? I also use mine for a daily driver and it rains alot here in Seattle. So I don't want to loose too much driveability when it's wet.
With that said though, I do plan on doing a few minor mods. I've already got a 08Z06 shifter on order and I will probably do a cat-back exhaust change to a Corsa Pace. Not for performance though, I just like the sound better. I'll also probably do some upgrades to the interior with nicer seats, floor mats, partition, etc.
I've always liked cars that were pretty trick in their stock form. That's one thing that turned me onto the Z06 in the first place. I've got nothing against people who want to go anywhere from mild to wild with theirs. But for me it suits most of what I was looking for in it's stock form.

Mine is a DD and 100% stone cold stock. I have another weekend car that I hot rod, so I spend my mod money there...the Z doesn't need me tweaking on it when it's plenty for daily commutes.
Maybe, and I do mean MAYBE, someday I might lean on it a little and install LGs, a better CAI and give it a tune. But for now it's just wasted money when I have two growing boys (16 and 13) and other things to throw cash at (like $4.00/gal fuel, for starters). Plus I feel that an unmolested Z will fetch better re-sale if I ever have to let go of the car.
Despite my own views, I applaud the guys that mod the snot out of these cars and make crazy HP.

I promised my wife I wouldn't mod the Z16...I lied. I currently have only a Halltech Stinger and the car is a blast to drive. However, I'll eventually do LTs, a tune, some weight reduction and lower her slightly. Nothing major as I want the Z16 to still drive like stock... The Z06 is already a race-car in street clothing and I need to work on my driving skills before needing any major mods.

Stock, aside from HIDs and CAGS defeat. Someday, I might get an intake, headers and tune, but I don't imagine getting bored with the stock power level any time soon...

bone stock 01. No intentions of MODs or racing / track. This car will rock your bones just like it is.
Now, I'm not saying that RE SALE is a reason in my thought process , but for me RE SALE is always on my mind, not just cars, but for many things that I acquire. I certainly believe that BONE STOCK cars attract the largest market of buyers and the amount of money one invests ( other than maint/repairs) is limited to the purchase amount.
I am always looking for the NEXT Vette ( Z06) , this one is just the first of a few that I probably will own going down the road. The longterm plan is to end up with a nice 04 at some point. For me, I would not consider another Z06 that is not Bone Stock. I am attracted to these cars for the FACTORY look and appeal.
And, I'm a Sales guy, so cost, market and timing is everything for me. I enjoy the hunt. I love driving around in the Z06 looking at cars , especially other Z06's or Corvettes.

I don't call her "Plain Jane" for nothing! I have a few items inside the cabin and upgraded 2/3rds of the speakers but the drivetrain is pure bone stock. That was why I only considered A Z06 when looking for my Vette, If I had started with 345 HP I would have already caved. Visions of heads, cam and supercharger dance through my daydreams however so one of these days I can see myself going over to the "dark side".

I've got an extended factory warranty until 60,000 miles (yeah, right!) or 2010. I've done with highly modified cars that lessen the fun of driving.
