Default AARP car insurance; almost too good to be true.

Anyone dealt with AARP car insurance?

We get excellent rates on our two Corvettes with Allstate; both listed as pleasure driven vehicles.

$88 total both per month; with typical $100k/$300k; $500/$100 deductables. Discounts included in that low rate are multi-car and homeowners insurance.

So, since turning 50'ish... I've been getting mail from the AARP - marketing their car insurance. Heck; I knew our Allstate policy couldn't be competed with, so I've been throwing these mailings from the AARP away.

After hearing Clark Howard again claiming AARP's car insurance is such a good deal; I went online and priced an identical policy for both Corvettes... with myself and Yvonne as the listed drivers' pleasure driven only.

$54 total both per month for identical coverage.

That's $400 per year less than Allstate

If I add in our two daily drivers; the savings per year for all 5 vehicles jumps to $950.

does this sound right; I mean... I almost can't believe my own eyes ???

I have not heard too many things (good or bad) about how people have been treated when it comes to AARP paying on accident damage claims. That might be a big deal. They may fix the car, but I would be very skeptical about rates staying the same after that. Or keeping the policy.

Also, I would wonder how a ticket or two could affect rates.

I've always heard that if you get a ticket of have an accident AARP rates will skyrocket.

Default insurance

We have an 03 with my wife and I as drivers, pleasure only through AARP and our premium is $279 per year, so your quote is right on. Never have had a claim so can't say good or bad in that respect.

Must be an old person thing... Save a boat load of cash on insurance with AARP then head to out to eat for with that 10% Senior discount.

my 2002 Coupe was quoted at $229 per year; and Yvonnes 2003 vert @ $293.

We will be applying for the Corvettes (and possibly both daily drivers and the homeowners ins) sometime this week

Ok Mike, you have always been a straight up guy so I went out to check them out. It appears that (if I am not mistaking) they can beat my progressive plan. I really don't know since the secretary pays the bills & I don't know the exact amount but I will follow up tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. I for one appreciate it.

Sounds like a good deal. It's too bad I'm a lot younger than you and will have to wait 5 or 10 years.....

Did I mention it came with the Viagra mod?

I'm going to see what I can find out Google wise about the Hartford AARP coverage.

If the numbers I put in are close I'd save somewhere around $1,500 a year for all four cars.

If I add in a home owners discount and tack on my current umbrella policy they may pay me.

Thanks for posting this. I have Progressive and am not happy with them. My wife and I neither have had any tickets or claims of any kind. The cars are depreciating with age, but every 6 months, they jack up our rates.

I am due to renew by 4/4/08 and am currently shopping. I'll keep an eye on this thread and post any good info that I find here as well.

At 50 years old you and your spouse can join AARP. They are a bunch of screaming libs, but you can definitely save some money on some programs with them.
