Was there ever a backseat in a vette?

Was there ever a backseat in a vette?
I'm looking into buying a used vet. A friend of mine told me there was a model made with a backseat.
He thought it was made around 1997. Was there ever such a thing in a vette?

No. Never. Next time you see your friend, grab him by the collar and shake him.
I assume he's kunfoosed thinking of a Camaro. They used detuned Vette engines in that era.

No! The Corvette was always a sportscar!

It's kind of like asking if Dolly Parton uses a padded bra - not just no, but H3LL NO!

Obviously your friend has had a lobotomy! Or maybe he doesn't even have those parts up in his head.
Ford made the T-bird 4 seat and killed it. GM was smarter and kept the vette a 2 seater for its whole life.

Chevrolet actually thought about making a Corvette with a backseat back in 1963 because Ford turned the 2-seater 1950s Thunderbird into a 4 seater. Fortunately Chevrolet gave up the idea.
That's what I've read..

I would have to imagine there had been circumstances that one wished it did have a back seat, but to answer your question…..no back seat in any production Corvette.

There's a story that Ed Cole and Bunkey Knudsen fought over doing a 4-seat Corvette about the time the C2 came out. IIRC, Knudsen was able to kill it after a few months.

YES!!! They made one. They made only 1....... it never left the factory...but it was built as an idea 'test'--thankfully it 'failed' the test and the 'idea' dumped.
EDIT: they made 2...forgot about the Nomad version...but again, never sold to the public...

Actually, there was not ever one from the factory. HOWEVER, there was a prominent dealer in the '60s that was selling new C2s with a back seat (more of a jump-seat or rumble-seat) added. I have a photo of it somewhere. I'll post it if I find it. Ok, I found it:

It wasn't a real car - it was a Styling evaluation "buck".
Built by GM styling for a demonstration car for management approval. ( They were trying to compete with the Ford T-bird ) The body of the car was extended by 6 inches to accommodate a small folding back seat. Fortunately, they did not like the car and it was relegated to the basement and scrapped.
