Default Challenged by a GTO...would I have won?

Last night on our way home from the 99 vert's first trip out in months, we were challenged by a newer GTO. He wanted to race...badly. I did not as I keep my racing at the track, but I couldn't help but wonder how my stock A4 99 would have done against the newer GTO.

Any thoughts? I have no other info on the GTO so lets assume it was a stock piece.

By the way, after driving it for the first time in a long while.....the C5 is a truly fabulous car. (he says after fixing the leaking battery over the winter)

What gears do you have in your 99?

Also, GTOs came with 2 different engines, depending on the year. 5.7 LS1(350hp) or 6.0 LS2(400hp)

Um its hard to say.....If it was a 6.0 manual, you might have your hands full.

We have a member in our vette club who owns both and says the C-5 is faster,no problem.

I raced an LS1 GTO with intake/exhaust and in my vette and won, raced LS2 GTO with LS6 heads, and some other internals with drag radials and it ran 12.1 and beat my 12.6

A toss up. The guy with the most practice wins. There are guys who squeeze 12.9s out of the C5 and guys who run mid 13s. Same with the Goat. Where do you fit in?
All things being equal I think a C5 can run a shade faster but good drivers put both these cars in close to a 13.0 1/4 mile. An early Vert would be a tick slower than a later coupe.

Just had a GTO vs Corvette drag event last Sunday. Seems to me the LS2 GTO owners are banking on stock C5's turning 13.3's. If thats the case then its a drivers race. I think the more aerodynamic + lighter C5's advantage gains as speeds increase.

I've had my 00 coupe run 12.8's with just a Vararam.
Also I had tons of smoked goat meat last Sunday. They don't scare me none

All LS2 GTO's have the 243 heads on them (I dont know if you meant ported 243's). I have yet to see a goat at out local track get below a 12.9, most run low to mid 13's (the LS2's). It would be a good race and you would prob win up top (100+), they are about ~650lbs heavies than our vettes.

If you had run him on the street I'd have said you won the "Idiot Race", but since you didn't you won in more ways than one. Some of these
morons just won't leave you alone though...just look over and yawn.
