This can't be normal
Went to put up daughter from school. While waiting in the line I look down and my temp gauge was at 225. I rev'd the motor and it went down to 217 and back up to 225. Once I got out on the road she went down to 195.
Fan, stat? Normal?

normal for c5s, turn airco on and it drops it some, fans don't come on until I think 200+ for low speed fan and higher for second fan can be reprogramed in pcm to come on sooner. us old school guys freek when we see anything over 200 hotter temps better on emissions I think is the reason for the fan setting. someone correct me if I am wrong.

Sounds pretty normal when you consider at idle, neither fan has probably kicked on yet unless you've turned on the a/c. Consider ambient air temperature and that movement of air flow through the radiator is restricted when the car isn't moving.
You might check to see if there's any debris in front of the radiator and a/c condenser, but if temperatures are stable at speed, you're probably experiencing normal fluctuations.
In the "old days", any temperature above 180 degrees brought owners concern, but the modern LSx series motors are engineered for higher temperatures. Did you know you can even drive your car for short distances w/o any coolant in the motor?

If you were sitting still for a while, that temp is not out of line. Once you got to moving again, it dropped back so I'd say no problem there.

I was about to have damn stroke. I was looking for the biggest pile of snow to start dumping on the intake...
I have a C3 with a ZZ383 stroker motor and your right about the old school stuff.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I guess I can take off this blood-pressure cuff now...

That is normal, mine did the same thing all the time. The fans are set to kick on at 226. You can have the fans set to kick on at a lower temp if you like. A tuner can adjust that for you,or just turn on the AC when you see the temp rising.

The second fan doesn't kick in till something like 232 unless you have the A/C on. About had a stroke when I saw 234 in rush hour traffic. Turned on the A/C and it started to cool off.

Normal for C-5s. Reprogram your computer to have the first fan come on at 170 and the second at 195. It is all done for emissions. Hotter engines have less emissions but run slower......

You have some junk/debris in your upper radiator area. Lift the front so you can get under it, and look up high on the radiator. You will probably have about two handfulls of leaves, grass, etc. there. I have to clean mine out at least once per season. It does the same thing.
