Test drove 04 Z06 - funny smell?
I test drove an 04 Z with my brother about a week ago. I drove it like I stole it. This was done on the access road to the highway and then on the highway itself. While driving it I did manage to bounce off the rev limiter once, shortly afterwards we got off at an exit and came back around back to the dealer. While on the way back we noticed a funny smell, it wasnt like an AC funky smell either or rubber. Is that normal?

Drifting
Funny like ha ha ha, or funny like a fart in an elevator?
Or was it that you were giggling after your acceleration romp and you happened to notice an unusual smell. It might have been the smell of fun.
Seriously, did it have muffler wrap on the headers or exhaust? I notice that or the smell of my brakes when I go a little faster than usual.

Burning Brakes
I think we need more information here. "Funny smell" can mean a lot of different things. Did it smell like something burning? That can be a lot of different things, like the clutch, brakes, oil dripping on exhaust, oil burning smell from exhaust, coolant leaking onto headers, electrical wiring burning somewhere, "smoking" the tires, etc. There are all kinds of other smells that a car can have as well. Unless you can describe it better, it's hard to say what it might have been. It could even have come from someone else's car, for that matter.
More importantly, before you buy a used car like that, if you have any concerns about it, take it to a shop you know and trust and have a PPI done. It won't cost that much, maybe a $100 or so, but well worth having a pro put it up on the rack, check compression, go over all the major things that could be an issue, and scan for any codes that it might have thrown. Plus, if you can get an extended GM warranty, it's worth getting.

Without knowing what sort of smell it is hard to tell. If not a burnt or hot smell which could be the things previously mentioned then check to see if the carpet is wet. A few of these cars have had problems with leaks.

I'd also say it there's a good chance it was the clutch.
If it was already worn out quite a bit, and assuming you did some decently hard shifts, it may not have been able to hold the power and slipped.
Either that, or you rode the clutch... although any semi-experienced manual transmission driver seldomly does that.
Burnt clutch has a very distinctive smell. I can't describe it. But I know it when I smell it. It smells kinda foul... lol!

Could be clutch, and or brakes. But most any car if it is driven normally for a long time and then driven "like you stole it" will smell a little. This is due to the increased heat that the components are not usually subjected to which burns off residual oil, dirt and dust etc... It's akin to the smell you get when you turn the house furnace on for the first time in the fall after being off all summer.
If it seemed to function and sound good I wouldn't worry about it. Take it to a good mechanic for inspection.

I will definitely check the vehicle out before I buy it, but I was never going to get that perticular one, I can't do black. It might have been the clutch, I'd say I suck at shifting well since I've never actually owned an MT vehicle before, just driven a government vehicle that was a manual. I think I did ride the clutch while I was talking to my brother and trying to explain to him how great this vehicle is and how I am no where near to be able to use it to its full potential. Thanks for the tip fellas!
p.s. I don't remember farting in the seat, that would just be innapropriate.
