Oil leak problems? I've never heard of that. My 98 has been extremely reliable! It's my daily driver, and with 90k on it she runs like new.

03 and 04 were pretty much identical.
the only difference I know of between the 02 and 03/04 is the F45 -vs- F55 suspension.
Can anyone list more differences between the last few years?

Obviously an 04 would be best if money is no object. However, any well cared for C5 can be great. My 98 at 71000 miles does not, nor has it ever leaked or used oil. You may be thinking of the 01's where there is a slight oil consumption issue if you drive around all the time near redline. Just get the best condition C5 your budget will allow.

Really it's a question of what year between 2000-2004 is the best. I think based on all the stuff that was improved and newer options you can't even consider 97,98 or 99 in the running. Every book I have read I keep finding more things they quietly fixed those three years.
I think you can also toss out 2000 based on the improvments made for 2001.
Value wise right now I would say 2001.

They are all the best - some just were more refined than others which is normal as the car gets newer. Maybe the oil problem you are talking about is the differential seal leaks - seems they all had that.

Generally they should get better each year...
...however, in 2004 they went with the pain in the *** fuel system, so I will say 2003. Besides, the 2003s had the cool emblems too.

IMHO, the 2004 Commemorative (Z16) Z06 (foreground) represents all the best attributes of the C5 generation. I wish I had one!
