Drive a C5 & Live at home... OR Don't Live at home, and don't drive a C5...
If you had to choose between the following scenarios, which would you choose, and why. Assume you are in your early 20's, working and going to college full time. For you older guys, it may be hard to pick given your age, but just picture yourself when you were in Your early 20's.
Drive a C5 Vette & be able to comfortably afford it... but you must live at home (ie. with a parent, and its not like high school. You have very little if any rules/restrictions).
OR
Don't drive a C5, have your own apartment with a roommate or 2, and drive a whatever car (ie something generic & economical, nothing special.)

They would claim "if your man enough to buy that car.... then your mature enough to move the hell out and start being completely responsible for your ownself".
it's that simple and common around here.

I couldn't wait to get out on my own and did so at 18 years old when I was in college.
Having a car was necessary, but having a Corvette later in life was worth the wait.
Having said that, this is probably more of an OT topic...

This poll is going to clearly illustrate the line between youthful enthusiasm and aged experience.
You know the expression "If I knew then what I know now"? 20 years from now it won't make you roll your eyes... it will bring a tear to them. Move out. Trust us.

I am 30 and haven't lived at home since I joined the military at 22. Although I think too many people don't move out and suckle at the teet of their parents generosity, if you are going to school and working, you obviously are responsible and I wouldn't worry about living at home. Once you finish college though, whole different story. Ladies understand guys living in their parents basement when you are in school, not when they have a degree.

how about move out get a job that pays well enough to have a vette and an apartment and go to school part time. If you have a couple of roomates and shop around for a fairly priced c5 I dont see why you cant do both.

On top of that, good apartments are also hard to find. Most are overpriced and are dumps.. the ones that are neither, are too far away from civilization.
I don't doubt for a second that this could be down down south, but Maine is a whole different story. Also you must remember that if you own a C5 living in Maine, you need a winter car for the other half of the year.

Cliff notes on my .02: If you can stay at home, do so, but set yourself up so that the money you'd be wasting on an apartment goes towards a house for yourself, if you can still afford to get a 'vette at that point, go for it!
Sca-reeew living in an apartment is my (and my parents') attitude!
Now, granted, all of my college education was at two local colleges (one for general education and one focused on digital art), but even then I didn't take the route some classmates did and stayed at home. Now that I've got a full-time job locally as well I'm still staying with the parents.... granted this is 'as planned'... They're using my technical skills (ex-IT and ex-graphical designer) to their advantage, as well as having the extra hand around to get work done (*big* house remodel coming up soon). They'd rather I put the money I'd be pissing away to some landlord's pocket into a Schwab account, which I've been doing for many years now, to act as a down payment for a home of my own; on top of that I'm making enough to make payments on my '01 'vert. I've had more than a few people make fun of me for still living at home, but when I ask them how much of the money they're spending on rent a month goes towards them actually owning the place they live in, they shut the hell up.

Are your parents like: 1) Mr. and Mrs. Costanza or the 2) Cleavers?
1) Pick up a hot chick (maybe even "the one") in a Corvette then tell her she has to be quiet so not to wake mom and dad, OR, 2) pick her up in a `92 Olds and take her back to YOUR apartment?
Is mom going to be doing your laundry?
Will we see a post in 2023 which reads, "I really want to get one of those C9's, but it means 6 more years with mom and dad."?
You should draw the limit to your stay and stick to it. Understanding parents who let you get away with this, C5 now, move out within 6 months after graduation?
Can you afford the upkeep and insurance on a C5?
Don't compromise school for any car.
That's about all I got....

it's time to get your **** out of the house if you've got that much money. Step up and be responsible for yourself.
Would you still be living under the rules of "you're in my house, these are my rules" or do you make your own and come and go as you please? All the benefits of being taken care of, food in the fridge, utilities paid for you... Or do you pay your fair share of the household load, and communicate your activities?
As posted above, if you're living at home and setting yourself up for life afterwards by saving for a house or other responsiblities, I've got no issues with that. Especially if you're going to school, I'd be happy to pay for that as well. In fact as a parent would be happy to support that initiative.
But if you're at home Playin' While I'm Payin', well there's Hell to pay for that...
Just my $.02

Moved out my second year of college and never looked back. Everything in my life changed, including my relationship with my parents. I always had a good relationship with them but once I was on my own it became even better, more adult like I think. Anyway, as much as I love Corvettes, I wouldn't trade that time of my life for anything.
