Don't get me wrong, I like the feeling of driving and being one with the car using manual shift, but it is so much easier to relax, and see and be seen without shifting...maybe headed out of my 30's I would rather just cruise....

I have had a few 4 sp cars and could handle shifting pretty good in my racing days. My favorite was my 1969 Roadrunner 383 4 sp hurst 335 hp 355 posi rear. My best win was against a plymouth gtx 440 tri power with automatic. I pulled him 1/2 car out of the hole and held that lead through to the end of the 1/4 mile. After the race was over my friend who was sitting next to me said that while I was working my **** off shifting gears, the guy in the GTX was just sitting there motioning with his head to go faster. I had a lot of fun and was quite happy winning the race. After owning several standard tranny cars, they are all fun at first, but then the shifting becomes a pain. Having owned several automatic transmission cars, including my Corvette, they are fun and then get somewhat boring. Sometimes I think we want what we don't have. I guess what I'm trying to say is they are both great, but I have to give the slight edge to the automatic.

Nope..here's one for you:

Would you rather read this one (A) Automatic or Standard, variation of.......or about (B) Oil, which is best? or (C) Tires, which should I buy? or, the ever favorite (D) How often should I change the oil?....

Live in S. Kali and the freeway is a nightmare- I chose A4 for this reason.

Yup. Two of my other cars are sticks. My C5 started as a stick and later was converted to an auto.

I couldn't find a vert in a 6-speed. Have been told that most verts come with the A4 but the 6spd was an option.

Note that almost all the door-slammer drag cars are now auto-magics.

Watch "Pinks" on the speed channel, and rarely do you see anyone without an auto trans.

And yes, like a lot of other old-timers on this thread, I grew up shifting gears. In fact, the first car I routinely drove had a four speed manual shift, on the column. A Peugeot 403 with all of 65 horsepower.

I still own my 67 Chevelle, that has "three on the tree", with the factory Warner overdrive behind it, so....it offers six forward speeds, and two in reverse. It has the chromed handle labled OVERDRIVE under the dash.

But that's me.
True gearheads only drive Manual transmission vehicles ? Good to know. I can stereotype more accurately now !

I got that stick thing out of my system when I was younger. Now I just don't want to be bothered. All 3 of my Vettes (vintage, racer, daily driver) are automatics.
