What brake pads to stop the brake dust blizzard?
So I've come to the conclusion that after only 25 miles of driving my gray wheels are already covered in brake dust (fronts). I refuse to be like the typical BMW owner that drives around with black front wheels and gray rear wheels. What pads do you guys suggest? I'm sure the ones on there are stock being that I only have 27K miles.

Funny way to put it and I agree..... I however had to swap my stock pads for ceramics since I bought the CCW wheels (polishied aluminum and the stock pads dont mix one bit). I have my stock stuff sitting in a box to be quickly installed should the need arise ie: track day.
To the OP, the ceramics are more than adequate for street duty and if your over driving them on regular city streets/highways you seriously need to consider getting on a track before you injure yourself or someone else...... not saying you drive like this or intend to...... simply saying the ceramics are fine for street duty.

Well I don't intend to track the car so I'm just looking for pads with good stopping power. Now how much "worse" at stopping are the hawks than the stockers? Some of you guys make it sound like I would take a lot longer to stop (the track comments)?

Hawk HPS Pads
I installed the Hawk pads with great results. They brake better then the GM OEM pads and generate significantly less dust. I got the best of both worlds with them.

You probably wont notice any reduction in stop distance on the street (unless you were coming down from well into the triple digits)... the track comments are made because ceramic pads tend to fade after repeated hard braking (typical to what you subject them to on a road coarse). For street duty the ceramics are more than adequate, I have the GM ceramic pads and they work great, virtually no dust and they have yet to make a sound (squeal).

When I put the new pads on, I also changed the rotors. I found on ebay a
company that drills and slots Brembo rotors and powders coats the center hub red. I think the set of four cost about $300 and the hawk pads ran around $200. I couldn't see putting expensive pads on old rotors. The hawk instructions explain that if the rotors aren't new, you have to sand the surface so the pads bed properly. Needless to say the brakes look awesome drilled and slotted with red hubs to match the calipers!

I have been wanting to change to ceramic pads for a while now just for this reason. I drive mine every day and sometimes cannot wash my care every week and the brake dust on the wheels really builds up after 2 weeks of daily driving. My son put ceramics on his camaro with Z06 wheels and the dust is almost a non issue anymore.
