Is someone trying to rip me off?
Ok so I was selling a set of 03 commemorative seats on ebay and a guy emailed me privately said he'd give me $1280 to end the auction and sell to him so I said ok. He paid me, I ended the auction. I was cautious, so I withdrew the money from my paypal into my bank account, and took all the money out of my account so there is $0.00 in there.
He gives me the shipping address, which is...Johndoetown,NJ. I go to greyhound and they say they can't ship to johndoetown but can ship to maryjanetown which is a bigger city and is only 10 miles away. I figure that will work cause this guy is understanding. So I ship to maryjanetown. I email him the tracking number and everything he needs and then he emails me back saying that won't work because he is from Norway and the address I had him send to is a fowarding shipping company.....
Now I have no way of getting the seats from maryjanetown to johndoetown.... I wish he would have told me this from the beginning. Does this sound like a scam to anyone? If I would have known the money was coming from overseas and seats were being shipped internationally I would never have made the deal.

well you got paid...so he's not scamming you. he just needs a little more help.
but yeah he should have been more clear on where the seats are going.

If it's a scam-Paypal will GET IT BACK FROM YOU! Just cause you have the money moved does not mean he's legit. I think it's bogus-don;t spend the money right away and try to get the seats back.

@ probs here I see..
1, You did the transaction outside of eBay, That is a no no, Buyers are not allowed to do what he did.
2, you didn't follow the shipping instructions.
Understanding or not, I would be bummed if someone shipped to another town and not to the address supplied.
He did his part, He paid you and gave you a shipping address.
Question now is, How are you going to make good, I can see where people use forwarding address.
You better get on the phone and call Grayhound and find a way to have them shipped to where he paid to have them shipped.
Just my 2 cents.

Give the guy his money back and sell the seats to someone locally by pick-up only on craigslist. Saves a lot of time and worries if someone just pays cash and pick them up themselves. Just my $.02

He was clear. He gave an address to send them, Seller should of never took it upon himself to ship to another town with contacting the buyer.

It sounds like you messed up by shipping it to the wrong location. If he never gets the seats at the location he told you to ship to then you are responsible. You should have checked before you shipped them. If I were you, I would try to find those seats ASAP and get them to the correct location so you are not liable.

oh, right. yeah now it kinda reads more like the seller is ripping off the buyer by shipping it to the wrong location. (not saying that he was)

I didn't say the seller was trying to rip the buyer off, I said it is the sellers responcabilty to ship to the correct address, He should of not sent to another town without talking to buyer first. If Grayhound didn't ship to that town he should of found another company that would deliver to the correct address...

wow thanks to all calling me a scammer, but to the others thanks for answering my question and giving me advice. I also believe that I need to make this right because he did give me an address and I didnt get it there, which I would have if I knew he didnt live at the address he gave me. I am going to call the greyhound in the city, and see what I can do in the morning. I was just wondering if this sounded like an overseas-backcharging scam kinda deal.
