Given up muscle car to buy Z06?
How many of you guys and gals have given up old muscle cars to buy a C5 or C5 Z06? Any regrets? I really really want a C5 Z06. It is the most awesome driving car I have ever experienced! But I have to get rid of 1 or 2 of my first gen Camaros. (only 1 is drivable) She is bad though. (1967 RS conv., big block, Tremec, Baer brakes, etc.)
This is driving me crazy. Just don't know if it is the right thing to do. Considering that the old muscle is still appreciating in value.
Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

I did but it was waaay back in '72 when I was 17 years old and a senior in high school. Had a '69 Mustang Mach I w/428 CJ. Air dam, shaker hood, window slats...the whole nine yards. Loved it...up until I drove my bosses '69 Daytona Yellow L46 four speed convertible Sold the CJ and bought his Vette and never looked back.
I've owned a Corvette ever since and this FRC is #12 but not the last. Today I don't know if I'd sell a muscle car for a C5 considering what authentic cars from that era are worth. There's plenty of C5s but very few of those. I'd have to have both. I sure couldn't get another '69 CJ for what I paid back then...if I'd only knew.

Part of me wants to tell you to dump that old Camaro and get a convertible that runs in the neighborhood of a stock Z06. Hey, this is your lucky day, I have that car right here.
The little voice on the other shoulder is saying keep your Camaro which is appreciating and save up for the C5, which is depreciating.
They are totally different animals, the C5 will not disappoint you on power, handling, performance, ability to take long road trips, and generally have fun in, but you would probably miss the Camaro; unless you've just had all the fun with it you want and you are ready to move on to something else. I try to keep a classic around (currently a nice '65 Elky) for local cruises and stuff, but the Corvette is still the first choice for road trips and twisty spirited driving.
Now, if you are interested in a trade I do have a nice Corvette convertible that could be in your driveway...

I had both a 48 Chevy Coupe Street Rod and a C5 for a few years. I sold the Rod in February and don't really miss it.

I was having the same dilema until I drove my friends 2003 Z06. I gave up a mint 67 GTO to purchase my 2002 Z06. No regrets here......Just an awsome driving experience. The increasing value of the GTO was starting to make me nervous driving it on the street. Car shows and cruises were getting boring. I always enjoyed driving and drag racing the GTO until the value kept creeping up. The GTO ran low 13's and was a cream puff cruising around town. LOTS of low end torque that used to suprise many modern muscle cars on the street.
For me, I really like the overall feel of the Z. You can't match the all around performance of these cars and the feeling that they are part of you while driving them.
Good luck with your decision.

Do It!
I sold my 64 Malibu SS. Restored every nut & bolt on the car, I won every show I could attend. It was my pride & joy but I really dind't drive it and no matter what you do.... it was still an old car. It was better than new but still an old car.
I bought a C5 convertable and LOVE it. I can drive it anywhere. Get on it. Cruise around with the top down enjoying every bit of it.
I was sad to see the Malibu go until I got in the seat of my 03.

With the way old muscle cars are appreciating in price, I'd probably keep the Camaro and just save up for a C5. Have the best of both worlds in the garage.

If you have the room, if you have the money, and if you want to give both equal attention, then I would suggest you keep the Camaro & buy a Z06 later. Two totally different cars give you a wider option of events, activities, cruises, etc.
(For those of you who miss your old project car - I have a `63 Nova that needs a new home )

I guess it comes down to what would give you more car for the money. The camaro has alot of value but is more of a paperwieght in the garage because you don't drive it.The Zo6 can be a daily driver and gives very reasonable mileage and is comfy. The money would be better spent on something you can use.

Sounds like you have a tough decision to make. I gave up a mint 86 Iroc and a mint 90 454 SS pickup, both with very low mileage. Personally, I don't regret my decision and have enjoyed all the fun and excitement the C5 has brought to me and my wife. Good luck.
