Proud new owner of an '03 Z06
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to say "hi" from sunny Fort Huachuca, AZ, where I just traded my 2005 Subaru WRX in on a 2003 Z06.
I have always been more of an import guy, but after modifying my last two cars to the point of headache, I decided on a whim to get rid of my WRX yesterday and buy a Corvette.
Of course immediately I was impressed with the Vette, but that was just a test drive. This morning I picked up the car on my lunch hour (the car had its original battery which died after my test run last night and had to be replaced this morning). After work I have a girl friend of mine that lives in Tucson that I went to see.
I put a few hundred miles on her today, and all I can say is I am stunned. Why the hell have I not owned something like this for years? More or less I'm just speechless.
The only downer for the night, is when it got dark we turned on the lights and heard a grinding noise from the passenger headlight, and now it won't go down after the lights are shut off. The dealer told me to bring it in tomorrow, but I have to leave on business for Hawaii on Sunday so I'm hoping they have a spare motor for that light lying around. Does this happen often?
Anyhow, glad to finally be approved for the board. Look forward to meeting some of you or at least interacting here!

Thank you very much! I edited my first post so people can laugh at my last two cars
Anyhow, this car is my daily driver so I'm gonna be having a lot of fun and wasting a lot of gas
PS - I was stationed at Ft. Sill a few years ago, been to OKC many-a-time. Very nice place!

Congrats and welcome!!! I bet your headlight issue is related to the plastic gear/sprocket in the assembly. I had this problem with my vette when I bought it back in the 2000 - the dealer fixed it easily. I hope your problem is similar.
Cheers

But the bottom line is - I drive a Z06 - and it's friggin amazing. And the guy who complains the most drives a Mini.
In his defense, he's like 6'5" and 300lbs and has a sticker on the back that says "I drive a Mini, what are you compensating for."
Either way, I think the Vette would eat his Mini and spit out a Radio Flyer.

When he said common, he meant that is's one of the common bugs that C5's have, the gears strip becuase GM used cheap oem parts. Once it's fixed it should be fine (if the dealer does it right)

Welcome to the vette world and congrats. The C5 Z06 is still one bad azz ***** of a car. Wait til you start modding it and unlock even more power.

(sorry I had to say it, said the same thing about the last two, but I think I'll stick to the 405hp for now)

Welcome Matt!
The welcome mat is out!
Now on to the good stuff. Your'e gonna love that Z06! After you get the new brass gears in your headlight motors, you shouldn't have any more problems with that.
You say you're not going to mod your car. Yea, right! There's so many nice little cosmetic upgrades you can do to make your car look even better i.e. rear and front bumper inserts, steering wheel decal, airbag lettering, hood seal, exhaust plate, floor mats, and cargo mat to name a few.
Be sure and post up some pics when you can.
BTW, your profile says 2005 Z06 and your post says 2003 Z06.

I have a 2000 FRC with 49k miles on it. Never had a problem with the popup headlights. Is your headlight a "common" problem ? Hmmmm....common.....I don't know about that. But it is common enough that the plastic gear that operates the popup, has been ID'ed as a cheap plastic part that DOES fail.
My guess is that the plastic gear controlling the popup pooped the bed. It's annoying but minor.
Glad you dumped that freakin' Subaru. Too many foreign products on American highways. One less riceburner is a welcome change.
Check the popup headlight gear.
