Any Reason NOT to buy the VaraRam VR-B2?
This looks like an awesome product, and Cajundude is offering a great price (at least as of one week ago) so is there any reason why I shouldn't treat myself to this product? I plan on taking it to my local shop for a professional install.

No reason not to. It's a fine product and a great vendor.

I got one, no problems. Some people will talk about concerns of getting water up into it but the likelihood of that unless you drive into a good size stream is low.
If you can turn a wrench, have jack/stands, and a friend .. do the install yourself and save some money. Me and a buddy did mine and it took around 4 hrs taking it easy and following Cajundudes instructions. And i'm not all that mechanically inclined. It was more satisfying for me to do it myself rather than pick it up from a shop.

no worries about water. I have one and drove through a full blown texas thunderstorm....twice (seperate days) It's waterproof and radioflyer approved.
I would suggest getting ZO6 style screens to keep leaves and crap from flying into your intakes.
I also got mine from cajundude. Best price on the new vararam period (ebay included)

Are we talking about the ones that go down into the open holes in the front fascia? I'd only use that for track and not daily driving...too many things in the road that can cause problems with that....

I think that's why everyone is recommending the Z06 screens (which I already have.) I recall someone mentioning the intake sucking up a bird.

I installed one myself a couple of months ago on my 2000. Here is my take:
1. Must have ramps or jackstands (I bought Rhino).
2. Double estimates of time. I have turned a wrench or two and it still took me 8 hours total (no laughing please). The underneath work is a pain on your back. It seemed so much easier when I was 20.....
3. It would be good to have a friend to help. Lining things up is best done by two.
4. DO NOT RELY ONLY ON THE INSTRUCITONS PROVIDED BY VARARAM! I would have been lost if it weren't for the other set of instructions mentioned above. Do a search for "vararam install". There are some very detailed ones out there.
5. I put on the racemesh screens and love them.
6. Foglights add an hour to the job...taking them off, putting them back on....adjusting them.
7. You notice a very different intake sound. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner...sucking in the air...from the front of your car.
8. I didn't really notice a performace increase on my stock 00 but I haven't had the opportunity to test it.
If you are handy go for it. If the most you have ever done is change plugs, best let a shop do it.

The Vararam is a good product and if you can get one at a decent price, go for it.

I did the install on my 2000 during the summer, took about 5 to 6 hours. It was a pain in the a$$ but Jason instruction were right on. I think it helped with the performances of the car, I also installed the screens to be on the safe side. Hams

If someone can post the link to Cajundude's instructions to put on the Vararam, that helped me quite a bit and saved me hours of extra work figuring it out.
I recommend before putting the filler in, to spray it with WD-40 on the side getting the air from outside or a K&N recharge kit.
Good Luck with the install, it took me 6 hours and I love the performance from my first non appearance modification.

I have the Vararam along with the Z06 screens and love it. It sounds like the old days when you put a chrome air cleaner on top of a big 4 barrel carb and floored it. Those were the days. I have no regrets at all. Remember also, you don't have to cut up any of the radiator shroud like some others, no modifications to original parts which means that it can easily be put back to stock if you sell the car.

ANY aftermarket intake system must have a C.A.R.B. sticker in order to pass the visual part of the test. As far as I know, only the K&N FIPK and the Callaway Honker are legal in California.
