I paid a lot less than that in Texas. I don't remember exactly how much as my truck and Vette both came due at the same time.

The price of Freedom...............
Buddy that is the price for all the fine roads that you have in California. Those roads are not free you know. Also your money supports that fine institution you have in California called the California Air Resourses Board ( CARB) which is the leader in directing every citizen to mass transit or a green friendly vehicle. So be proud, hold your head high as you pay that tag fee.
One good thing for you is that your govenor got your fees reduced when he got into office. They were at 3% when I left in 2004, I believe.
In Oregon, land of the liberals we pay $30 a year, per vehicle. Oh yes, no smog tests here.

Wow, I can't believe some of those costs. I'm in FL, But I pay less then $80.00 for two vechiles, Vette and a Buick. I just ordered a personalized plate, so the price is going up $15.00 a year.
