Default Custom air intake

I finally got around to taking some pics of my custom setup (don't mind the dirty engine bay...)

After seeing a C6 K&N FIPK, I just ordered the 18" filter replacement and attached it to the air bridge with another coupler. It is huge (and costs a kit less than just about any kit out there.)
It runs great and appears to have much more air surface that a blackwing.

Very creative, and yes it is obviously bigger than a BLACKWING!
DIY intakes can be much less expensive than after market.

I've never taken the stock filter box apart. Do you just remove it, add the coupling and filter where it was? What size is that coupling?

Thanks,

Andy

Wow, an alternate solution! I have been looking at CAI's, and am really confused as to what to go with. Can anyone chime in on the Pros, and Cons with doing something like this? I like the cost, but would it work as well as a Vararam or Halitech. I am very new to these types of mods so please excuse my ignorance. Thanks!

Anyone? Pros, and Cons about doing it this way as opposed to buying one? Looks great to me, but I want to make sure I am doing things properly. Thanks!

^ Saving money... no Con... if you have a Z06 you have fresh air screens that flow air right there.

No codes so far - I realy don't see why it would either...

As for inexpensive couplers, here's where I got mine:

You should cut up what you have left of the $36 12" length you bought and sell it to forum members...breakeven = free mod!

There is a hose that connects to the air box (filtered air). Not sure what it feeds fresh air to?
