i have heard of people gettin better times in 1/4 mile in comp driving mode,so for some reason i think it completely gets rid of tc and gives the car max power to the rear wheels

I think the TC is a good feature for a lot of people. (I'm just not one of them) I personally don't use mine at anytime.......in fact it's the first button I push after starting the car. I've done just fine for the last 25 years without it,....and mostly in cars with much more power than the C5. I don't like anything standing in the way of me having 100% control of my car.

I just leave it on. Once I put the blower on, traction control doesn't seem to do anything. It will spin the tires regardless. It does help in the rain when it is very slick and even light thottle would spin the tires. I'll take whatever safety net I can get.

And NO, not all Corvettes have Competitive mode. They didn't start putting it in until 1998. But then again, not all '98 and newer C5's have it. It was an option in a lot of them, just not all.

Sorry... couldn't resist!! The technology on these cars is awesome!! Not using it is foolish in my book, but hey, it's your car!!

TC has saved my butt a couple of times, and of course it will be when you least expect it. Driving home one evening, taking a turn a bit too fast, and don't see the road is wet. If you saw it coming, I'd slow down. TC OFF, and yes, you can burn some mean rubber. But if you've never driven a car with a lot of torque, you just might lose it.

I turn my TC off very rarely! The second or third time I did I learned a very important lesson! A Stang had been "messin" with me for a few miles on a stoplight infested 50 MPH four lane for a few miles when we both hit a red lite number one in each lane. I turned off the TC and waited for the lite. I should have known the wind direction was tail to nose but found out the hard way! I dumped the clutch as smooth as I then knew how around 3000 and the smoke followed me until I shifted into second at around 50. I didn't know which direction I was going and didn't have the luxury of having time to care! The Stang and the smoke were gone going into third! BY THEN I WAS ON A CLOSED COURSE AND WAS A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER

I'm an old drag racer from the Seattle area, (I grew up 5 miles from Pacific Raceways) and a few of the cars I'm referring to was my 67 Camaro w/a 468 Solid Roller Big Block, 13.5:1 compression with 650 RWHP. Another one was my 69 Chevelle - Pro/Street car w/a 427 running 597 RWHP.......and so on and so forth. I've actually owned 9 Camaros, 4 Chevelles, 2 Novas, and now 2 Corvettes.

If your a decent driver you don't need no stinking traction control unless it is snowing.

You don't need traction control if you know your car. My Vette is a daily driver and is supercharged (603 rwhp). I have mine set up (with a LapTrax device) to automatically go into competitive mode every time the car starts. This turns off the TC but leaves active handling on.
I drive it in all weather conditions. When it is raining I know I can't accelerate as agressively and I don't have to have TC telling me that. I wouldn't try it without AH, but traction control isn't as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be.

Wow! After reading all these posts I never realized there are so many wussies out there. Turn off your TC and live on the edge once in awhile. Life is too short not to take a risk now and then.
