A little off topic of the thread but I have to ask here since most are reading here with experience.....I have one high polish wheel replaced by Discount Tire which is really dull compared to my other 3....is it the clear coat (too thick?) or the polish underneath which is bad???

Yes, I'm trying to reduce the thickness of the clear with some 3M polishing compound to see if I can bring out the chrome type luster of the other 3 Y2K high polish wheels. I hope it is a problem with the clear and not the under polish job.

I stripped the wheels on my C4 a few years ago. Polished them up with some Mothers and then waxed them. They clean easily and don't tarnish. Sure look better than the ratty, chipped up clearcoat!!

nice read............i'm pretty optimastic now. i have a 86 i bought new and i only have11,000 miles on it and have been waiting to take the original wheels and tires off. they are still in perfect shape. i've been looking for years for a set of 86 rims that didn't have any curb rash on them and found a set on eBay finally. 86 rims are tough to find by themselves let alone good ones. they are slightly scratched but just on the cloudy clearcoat. i'm sure now after reading this i am armed with the knowledge to make these look as good as the originals!!! i'll post some before and after shots when i get done.
