This is a controversial subject. You'd be best just to use Mobil 1 synthetic as the owners manual suggests. IMO of course.

I see no reason to deviate from Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 isn't even full synthetic anymore, there are much better choices. I'm going with the German Castrol formula for my next change, (0w30) it is supposed to be one of the best.

I use Royal Purple and just use a good full synthetic oil and you will be fine in a stock Vette

I too use the Mobile 1 for my changes!

Sometimes it's just best to stay factory on the fluids!

Thanks,Matt

Another vote for German Castrol Syntec (0W30). I've got it in my vette right now. In these parts it's only available at Autozone...

Here we go again

I would never use an 0w-30 oil unless I was an Ice road trucker.

Link ?

Per Mobil 1, it is a full synthetic motor oil.

Where does the Owner's Manual suggest to use Mobil 1? Quote?

My OM just states to use an oil that meets GM 4718M specs. The oil fill cap on the engine just says Mobil 1 is the factory fill. Nothing more, nothing less.

Those of you who are saying that Mobil 1 isn't a fully synthetic oil anymore, where do you get that idea? According to their web site, it still is.

http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/Lu...bil1_5W-30.asp

Show me something that says it isn't anymore and I'll believe you. Otherwise, get your facts straight before posting.

From a 2000 owners manual

"You should look for this on the oil container, and
use only those oils that are identified as meeting GM
Standard 4718M and have the starburst symbol on the
front of the oil container.
Your vehicle’s engine is filled at the factory with a
Mobil 1 synthetic oil, which meets all requirements
for your vehicle.
Substitute Engine Oil: When adding oil to maintain
engine oil level, oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M
may not be available. You can add substitute oil
designated SAE 5W-30 with the starburst symbol at all
temperatures. If temperatures are above 0F (-18C),
you may substitute SAE 10W-30 with the starburst
symbol. Substitute oil not meeting GM Standard
GM4718M should not be used for an oil change."

The manual also has a picture of the oil fill cap with the Mobil 1 on it.

So you can go both directions in the thread. Use only Mobil 1 or use oil that meets GM 4718M

Anyone concerned with warranty, just document that the oil changes were done at proper intervals and the oil used met the standard. Perhaps you may be in a better position if you stay with the factory fill.

With that said - Wally World right now has Mobil 1 5-30 for $17.78 for 5 quarts. The oil meets GM4718M. And this is what I use.

I am using Amsoil. IMO I don't think Mobil 1 is as good as it once was.
