Delaware MV Laws
I am thinking about taking a job transfer out to Delaware. Anyone tell me if there are any crazy laws that may relate to our cars: loud exhaust, dual license plates, inspecations, etc. Thanks. Currently I have a Billy Boat exhaust, which is awesome, and I hate to give that up. Also, this state does not require a front license plate or inspection. Thanks for the info.

I'm not from Delaware but close enough. No problem with exhaust, no front plate and depending on where in Delaware you'll be, may need emitions test. I hope to be there in couple years myself, after the wife retires.

Delaware does have vehicle inspections(safety and emissions). They will do a visual check for cats. If the rules haven't changed, I think vehicles less than 5-6 years old don't have to pass emissions.
Not a bad place to get transferred. No sales tax and very cheap alcohol. If you have a Sam's club card, stop in and check their prices you will be amazed

Delaware is rear plate only
Inspection should not be a problem, there inspection system is state operated, unlike PA where inspections are performed at auto repair shops.
Head north on rte 52 towards Pa ( 20 minutes) great area,
Also lots of great twisty's to drive on in the area.
If you have time check out Chester County, Pa.

As others have offered, I'd be happy to help. I have only lived here for 45 years. I might be able to help with neighborhoods, restaurants, car shows, cruise nights, local clubs, you know all the important stuff. Send me a PM and I'll get you my phone number.

Hey Turnbo and Carz
Do either of you belong to any of the local clubs? Just joined Diamond State CC. This Sunday, we're cruising from McGlynn's, North & South, depending on where folks live, to Hartfeld for brunch. If you are interested, or even if you aren't, send me a PM and maybe we can hook up prior to going to Carlisle. BOB

Welcome to DE.
I relocated to Wilmington 7 years ago, originally from N. Jersey.
As others have mentioned, the DE inspection laws do not seem to be a big deal and we do not require a front plate.
One thing that was a surprise to me when I got here was the fees to bring in your vehicles into the state. I do not know the rates, I just wanted to give you a heads-up.
They also have some transfer fees when you buy a house that I had never seen before, but hey with no sales tax, thay have to run the state on something.
I will keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone suggests a good shop. I just picked up a Z06 exhaust from a CF member and need to find a good shop.

2.5% document fee (they dont call it a tax here) to bring your car in (blue book value i think)..
Coming from PA - i think the inspection is cake - although it leaves alot to be desired (they dont check brakes or anything like that), just as long as it will stop when you approach them.
I have a s/c on my car, and never had an issue with emmissions either. It is an ODBII check, so they dont do the sniffer test. Never seen them do a DB test for exhaust. Never saw them do a visual check for cats on my car either.
ECS is only an hour or so away
The speeding tickets are CHEAP, but the point system is very harsh.

NO sales tax is really a plus. We also have lower property taxes and insurances than the surrounding states. But we get you with those "Fees" mentioned earlier. We aren't really anywhere, but you can be ANYWHERE in 2 hours or less: the DE beach or Jersey shore, mountains in Poconos, Nation's capital, or NYC. Worst part is the increased traffic.

I'm in N Wilmington also.
Born and raised for 39 years
a little hint: if you wanna go to the ocean, go to NJ beaches. My little secret
it takes me one hour 35 minutes from my front door near Concord Mall to the front door in Ocean City NJ
great for the Phillies, Flyers and of course DA BIRDS!!!
2 hours to Poconos.
The humidity kinda stinks though
