Default Magnetic red

Greetings,
I've been told there were two shades of magnetic red sprayed on C5's. Does anyone know which years have which shades?
Thanks,
David

I too had heard that, but the Black Book shows the same paint code,
86U, for all years of Magnetic Red Metallic. It seems if there was a difference, the code should have been changed also so that it could be matched.

86U is not the paint code, it is the RPO code.

Mag Red II came along in 2000. It is just a tad darker than the original Mag Red.

Mine is a 2001 Magnetic Red Metallic with Tint coat. It shows on the window sticker, as a $600.00 option. This is what I've been told is known as the Mag red II I think the "Metallic with Tint coat" is the difference.

After all this time you'd think there would be someone out there who has taken a pic of two C5s side by side, one in the original Magnetic Red and one in Magnetic Red II. I'd love to see the difference.

I have seen some pictures somewhere(Will look for them when I get home). The Mag Red II if I remember correctly has more gold in or they switched to gold flakes in it. There was a post about it just don't remember if it was on here or not. Probably was this is about the only forum I look at anymore.

You're right - I knew that. What I should have said is that the Black Book shows the same code - 86 - for Magnetic Red Metallic from `99 to `02.

Thank you for the replies. I've been considering purchasing a '99 mag red top to replace the '01 I've got. (the top is across the country, can't get a visual). It sounds like the consensus is the two won't match.

The red with the gold flake is the 03 AE red.

The two won't match. Mag Red II came out mid year for the 2000 models. Here is the link to the Mag Red Club where you can find a pic of Carmine Red, Mag Red and Mag Red II.

I have a Y2K Mag Red, and yes they did change colors slightly mid year. My passenger door needed to be replaced and the painter was not thrilled about the color, but matched it just right. Be said he has to shoot alot of paper samples before it was right.
