Default Key Fob Problem 2000

My key fob on my 2000 stopped working, I replaced the battery and and then re synced it by holding down the lock and unlock button for abolut 12 sec. The horn beeped and it worked for about 5 min. and stopped . did it again and the same thing happened. I the pulled the owners manual abd went through the reprogram steps with the DIC until I got the message that "Fob 1 was was activated now do Fob 2", I skipped that step since I only have one. It still did not work, I then held down the lock and unlock button again 12 sec. got the beep worked for a few trimes and 10 min later not working again, any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like your FOB has gone bad, or the battery you got isn't strong enough to power the FOB correctly. Old maybe? I'd try a new battery, then a new FOB.

Open the FOB as if changing the battery. then remove the rubber insert, clean the contact pucks that touch the printed circuit when pushing the bottons with alcohol and also the printed circuit contact points with electronics cleaner {alcohol will work, but dry it off} Also clean the contacts for the battery on the PC board. reassemble and see if it works. If this doesn't help, it's time for a new fob.

Polution, smoke, etc can coat the sufaces of the printed circuit and contact pucks. It's sorta like the haze on the inside of your windshield if you don't clean it often. This coating acts like a resister {or insulator if nasty enough} for any electrical contact.

use DENATURED alcohol though, not isopropyl. Iso leaves a resudue, denatured does not. You can get a can of it at home depot, etc for about 3 bucks. Also great when cleaning off the car for stickers, lettering, etc as a preclean before the preadhesive.

I too have a 2000. The same thing happened to me and it ended up being a bad FOB, so if the above post by Phanni doesn't work, be ready to buy a new one.

and since they're a one year only deal, make sure you get the correct GM p/n 10432147 and they aren't cheap.

2000, one went bad. Had to keep forcing it to remember its association by holding the lock buttons for ten seconds. Minor inconvenience that has to be done every few days. I use the other keyfob now instead
