Default Tire insurance - tell me I did the right thing

Folks when I picked up my '03 earlier this week I let the delaer sell me tire insurance for 5 yrs/$500. In the event of blowouts, nails, etc., tires will be repaired or replaced, and the rims are also covered. I'm a noobie and don't know the cost of Corvette tires or rims, but I know they aren't cheap. I figured it was worth it, please tell me I didn't waste my money.

You know Ive been working in dealerships in a lot of different postions for about 4 years now, and over that course of time I have gotten a ton of calls from friends. They will ask stuff like Im buying this car am I getting a good deal, am i gettin a good deal on financing, should i buy the warranty and my answer has always been the same. If you feel like you got a good deal then you did. Be happy with your new ride, and know that now you have one less thing to worry about.

I have bought over the years about 15 extended warranties,.....and they WITHOUT EXCEPTION,......paid for themselves EVERYTIME . You "curb" ONE tire (OH,....like that cant happen) (ask me how I know) (dont ask) and that warranty WILL do the same!!!

Sometimes piece of mind is worth $500 dollars. I "used" to buy warranties on everything I purchased but I don't anymore. When I finally needed to use a warranty once on a blown engine, they said it was my fault because I couldn't prove that I had the oil changed reguarly. Receipts from Kragens didn't count, "could have used that oil on any car"! So...now I'm a gambler, if nothing goes wrong I make some money, if something does go wrong, I pay some money. And I'm now a big believer in Lady Luck.
ps. if its factored in to your overall payment, I'd say let it ride.

Default Warranties

My C-5 is under a dealership purchased warranty that I bought for $1,600.00 that is bumper to bumper with few exceptions, tires being one of them for 6 years and 75,000 miles. My 2001 C-5 is still under warranty at this time. It has been in twice for the transaxle shaft seals and each side was $685.00 a visit, so yes they are a good deal.

Your tire warranty= My Michelin Pilot Sports were approximately $300.00 each and they don't have your warranty. Yes I scuffed the curb once already too! Sleep well, you didn't waste your money.

You asked so I'll reply. My opinion is you flushed $500 down the drain. Always a suckers bet. Why do you think they offer it.....

Your warranty cost the same as all FOUR of my tires. ($530 shipped)

You really ARE PAYING for that peace of mind I would only take out a warranty on engine/powertrain. That's the only thing that could really hurt you if it went wrong. Rims and Tires? Replaceable.

I work at a BMW dealership and they also sell this type of insurance. Have seen a number of cars come in with repairs that have been covered. Sure saved the owners a ton of money.

These warranties are a substantial profit center for dealerships. This means on average they will not pay for themselves. Anyone that says otherwise is ignoring the reality of the situation.

I always turn down extra cost warranties, as I follow the odds. The dealership usually pays a fat spiff to the salesman to sell them, as well as turning a profit on the sale. You know they aren't losing money. However, I need to be prepared to absorb the cost of repairs as necessary. So far I feel I am way ahead of the game. Kind of like being the house at Vegas.

Do you feel lucky today? Do you?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm always leery of dealership warranties but some of you nailed it, for peace of mind I opted for this insurance. I feel better now. I fully appreciate what some of you are saying, though, who think it was a waste of $$. I typically turn all this stuff down.
