Default How much should a Brake job cost?

How much should a brake job cost if they plane the rotors and put on good pads?

PS I need a quick answer because my decision is time sensitive.

Thanks!

This is so easy to do yourself.. You could get out for less than $125 total, or pay-the-man and expect $300-500 for it.

New NAPA rotos for $36 each for the front and some good pads - $50 or so. Takes about an hour and a half.

on scale of difficulty - 1 out of 10, if that.

Good Luck

Disc brakes are soooooooo easy to do why pay someone. Unless like the Geico Gecko says "stand up and you can save some money, but you're so rich you'll just keep your seat."

Really good pads are about $50. Two bolts, off come the calipers, snap out the old pads & snap in the new pads and bolt them back on - thats it. Oh, you have to take off the wheels!

Costs about $5 - $10 bucks each to have the rotors turned if needed.

While your at it, you can get a can of red ceramic caliper paint and do a little bling - you can get that finished before the shop finishes the rotors.

Good Luck and have fun.

To have it done at a dealer you're looking at over $500.'s of all 4 wheels. For about 1/2 you can do drilled and slotted rotors and pads yourself..

Save yourself some $$ and spend it on other mods. (I did)

4 Drilled/Slotted rotors w/pads - $250

Red caliper paint & clear coat - $8

Doing it yourself and saving $300.................Priceless

I have to agree with the do-it-yourself crowd. I did mine with the help of a friend and I am not a great mechanic. I did spend a bit to get some good rotors, but doing it myself made up for it.

FYI: after I bought the rotors and pads I called around and using my parts, I was getting quotes of $250 - $375 for "professional" install.

Got to agree with doing it yourself. Save a bunch of money that can go to other mods.

For all 4 wheels?

Raybestos rotors and pads from Rock Auto about $205, shipped, to Chicago.

1 Liter of ATE Super Blue brake fluid - about $10

I'm going to assume you may already have a couple of beers in your fridge, otherwise a few more $$ for that.

I'm for doing it yourself. Provided you or someone else helping you knows and understands what they are doing.

Done wrong the consequences can truly be DEADLY.

Default You can do it yourself.

I am a serious weekender. I replaced my pads and rotors myself. You need very little experience. All you need to do is remove two bolts and the pads fall off then all you have to do is pull the rotor off. They are not bolted on. It really is that easy. Do it yourself and save the money.

You also have to know:

How to compress the caliper pistons to install the new pads
How to properly apply brake lube to the metal to metal contact points
How to remove and reinstall the rear rotors with out messing up the e-brake.

Yes any descent weekend knuckle buster can do it. You just have to do it correctly.

once you do one it's so simple, it probably takes longer to get the car up and the wheels off, then it does to change pads, and actually you only need to take one bolt out on the front caliper,(I believe off hand it's the top bolt) and the caliper will just pivot on the second bolt, if your not changing the rotors, there was at one time a DIY post with pics, but I cant find it anymore, sorry
