My first Vid: Seafoam in action
Well, I had done this before but the oil change was at 0% so I figured lets see what this 01 oil sucker has in it after the catch can install a few months ago. Alot more came out on the street under full throttle, I just didnt want to **** of my neighbors too much here. Lucky for me my next door neighbor has a nice 96 C4. He wanted me to do his vette and his SS camaro too.

Sweet... I've been meaning to do this. Which version of Sea Foam did you use and what method did you use... i.e. what vaccum port did you put in in through? How much? How long did you let the car sit after turning it off? Change oil and plugs afterwards?

Holy Decarbonization Batman! couple of question in addition to Cobra above: After you let it sit, did you slowly let it idle before you ran up the RPMs to blow it out, or was that a cold start? Also how high did you take the RPMs during that sequence? Thanks!

I've done this to several vehicles. Here is how you do it.
Buy regular Seafoam from any auto store. Pull a vacuum line from the intake and let it suck slowly at idle. Use about 1/2 to 3/4 of the can and reconnect the vacuum line. Sit in the car and do a quick and hard initial rev to about 4k RPM. Hold it around 3.5k to 4k and watch the smoke pour out! Hold the rev until the smoke thins out to nearly zero (5 mins or so). Take the car for a 15-20 min drive, shifting through out the RPM range.
That's it.
BTW, there is no need to rev it and let it back down to idle like he did in the vid. Hold the revs high and steady. I love the smoke show.

Sorry, was gaming.
I used the port from the catch can to the intake.
I held the motor at 2500 rpm with a stick on the pedal while dunking the hose in the can, in and out not making it die. When close to the end of the can, I bury the hose in it and suck out the rest and pull the stick and let the motor stall.
I let it sit about 20 min (forgot I had to go somewhere). When it started, I had to give about 1/2 throttle to keep it running. Some of the plugs wont fire right off the bat and it takes about 10-20 sec to get them all going. I reved it up at temp, going up to about 4-5 K.
I only went back to idle to give the neighbors a break and to see if all the cylinders were firing (which at first they werent, you can hear on the first rev).
Oh, its the seafoam in the can that you can pour.

I have owned high performance cars for years and have never had to do this. Seems like a lot of folks are doing this lately.
Why do you feel you have to do this to your car?
IMHO, if you drive your car regularly and sometimes hard, you should not have carbon build up.

However, I have an early 01. It is an oil sucking pig. Therefore the oil is going one place, the harder i drive it, the more it sucks oil. So every 6 months, I decarb it.
When I first bought the car bone stock, it had been driven by a grandpa. I would punch it and it would knock like a son of abiatch. I mean like a horrible audible knock and ping. Actually when I took it for a test drive(while buying it), I punched it and looked back and saw a huge cloud of smoke
After putting a Honker and predator tune in it, it knock retarded so bad, that it only made like 306 hp on the dyno. I had to go like 12.4 afr before seeing no knock retard.

I did this a week ago on my 99. I guess mine wasn't as dirty as I thought it was. It only smoked a good bit for about 5 seconds. I held the engine at speed and there was nothing more coming out. A good jaunt down the highway didn't have any more come out either.
I did the PCV method with the stall out. Let it sit for 30 minutes. IMO I think the amount of smoke is proportionate to the amount of carbon. But I usually blow out most of the carbon on the on-ramps

to much sucked in could hydrolock a motor. I watched a kid in high school whose dad told him to pour water through the carb to clean out the carbon dump (by mistake) a pint all at once, the motor stopped like "right NOW', would not crank. but would turn backwards with a wrench. Pulled the plugs, turned it over and water came out of one cylinder. Ran after that but found he bent a valve.
be careful,, the seafoam does work.
