Anyone else have a ZR6 Z06?
A little history about my car; 2001 Torch red Z06. The car was supposedly one of the press cars that GM used when the Z06 debuted in 2001. There were several that made their rounds with the automotive press. Supposedly, after their tour of duty most were thrashed so they were disposed of (crushed). Rather than crushing this one, the car had a new engine installed and was sold to the person I purchased it from (~10k miles). The original titler was General Motors.
This all sounds cool, but I'm not really sure where/how to prove or disprove the rumors. I didn't buy the car with reselling in mind. I would really love to modify it (I already have headers, exhaust, etc. waiting to go on, and dreams of a bigger engine). I would hate to ruin a car that should be treated as a part of automotive history (return of the Z06 - thank you Mr. Duntov!). If it turns out that everybody has the ZR6 RPO code and I'm just reading too much into it, that's fine. I'll happily start modding the car with no remorse.
What do you guys think? Where do I start looking?
And for the curious, here's a pic of the RPO tag in the glovebox...

It is something special
This is what the RPO code means. I’m not sure, but I think you have something special there. Maybe some forum members here know more about how to find out how many of these are around. I would contact the Corvette Museum.

I don't know what to say.
That odd duck of an option code, although noteworthy, won't be worth much historically (read $$$) for another decade or so.
Annnnnd since the engine was replaced, you technically don't have the test mule 'Vette... I'd say mod away and enjoy!

I guess it really all depends on what the car was used for...
If I could see the last 5 digits of the VIN I may be able to help.....
