I put my car away on October 25, 2006 and won't start it until the first or second week in April. I had a very minor oil leak a couple of years ago that I attribute to the car sitting for so long. Once I drove it for a day or two, the leak stopped. When I take it out of storage, I let it warm up for about 25-30 minutes before I drive it.

Only start it if we're gonna take it out on the road for a bit. Which ain't much these days in NE Ohio.

I won't start mine unless I'm going to drive it. All I need are clear roads - not much of that lately here in Indiana though.

My coupe has been stuck in the garage since December 22 . . . and I still have about 6 inches of ice and huge ruts in the street. I've pulled it out about every 2 weeks and let it run for about 1/2 hour and that's been doing it so far.

I start mine in the spring. Battery Tender all winter. I uncovered her last night to take a peak.. It's minus 5 degrees here but my car sit's in the heated garage. I never, ever started my old GTO after storing it for winter & never had a problem with that car so, same for the C5.

Since you brought it up I did not ask for opinions, just a poll to see what everyone else does. Why it turns into a "I am right" argument is beyond me. To me anything is better than another "look at my car after I washed it" thread.

I run mine once a month for about 1/2 hour, let it idle until the coolant is up to temp then vary the RPM's to get the oil over 212 to boil off any possible condensation. Or maybe I just do it because I'd go nuts waiting until spring to drive it!

Mobil is either wrong, or did not understand the question correctly.
While starting once a month during storage in warm climates is recommended, in cold climates, Starting it without letting the whole system come up to operating temperature only results in condensation that crated corrsion. It is absolutely the worst thing that you can do short of running with no oil.

If one is worried about a dry start, one can disconnect the coil packs and let the engine turn over a few times to build oil pressure and lubricate the cylinders.

I start mine almost every week, and let it idle until the oil gets to 100 degrees. Then I hold it at 2000 rpm for another fifteen minutes -- coolant gets hot enough to turn on the fans, and the oil always gets to 205 to 210 before I shut her down.
I also, as mentioned above, move the car back and forth to unflat spot the tires.....

I don't ever start it, but I try to plug in the battery charger about once a month.

It is my understanding that if you chose to start your car in the winter this is very important. Getting the oil temp up....
