Default Stating the obvious... these cars are very fast :)

Drove my mother's stock '99 mn6 vert from Greensboro, NC to Pensacola, FL and back over the holidays. I really enjoyed the base suspension and quiet exhaust (Z06 catback and otherwise stock). At first it felt very slow but eventually I got used to it and it felt smooth and fast esp at the top of 2nd and through 3rd.

However... today driving to work I hammerd 3rd in my car... woah baby! I've had my car going on 4 years... it's got 384 rwhp and I'm about to install a G5-X2 cam. However, driving a "slow" vert makes you really see what 70+ extra rwhp and the mn12 gear box does for you.

I know you all allready knew this... but fo anyone getting used to their car go drive a slow one for a few days

I got to do that. All people I had in my z that own regular C5s tell me my Z is a monster and I make nothing of it because they have a vette also. I got to feel the difference

I've got to do that too. Especially since I live in an area with such high elevation that my Z only runs 12.9 @ 111.5mph.

I have yet to see a regular (stock) C5 break into the 13s here though!

Brian,
You should feel the difference in going from my jacked up Jeep to my Vette and vice versa. Now that is a big swing in performance and height.

Yep.....the Z06 is a beast but relatively tame at cruising speeds. Just picked up mine tonight and on the way home cruised in 6th gear quite content on the highway. Got this wild urge to throttle it a bit - dropped it to 3rd shifted to 4th then......OMG what is the speedo reading ! ........let the car settle then my heartrate slowly returned to normal.

I drove a '98 coupe for 4 years without ever feeling that type of excitement !

Come on now, she's old enough to be your mother too you know!

The first time I went to pass a car with my z in competitive mode it scared the hell out of me. I was doing almost 50 and being used to cars with no power I floored it. The rear tires broke loose in 3rd gear and the rear end was trying to pass me on my right side. I didn't know whether to $h!t or wind my watch.

I’ve taken several friends for a ride in mine; many of them are Corvette owners.
The best one was a coworker that owns 78’ Indy 500 edition. He was always bragging about how fast his car was, and that the previous owners must have built the up engine.
I started at a roll in 2nd and finished at around 6000 rpm’s in 4th.
He hasn’t bragged about his car since.

This is a great mutual admiration society here, and I hate to be the guy who throws cold water on the discussion, but if you haven't driven the new C6Z, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Yes, our C5Zs are monsters. But the new C6Z is Godzilla! I was quite happy with my 405 hp Z until I drove a friend's C6Z. Now I'm seriously considering LT headers, X pipe, cats, cam, etc. Just as our C5Z's are a quantum leap over earlier cars and the non-Zs, the C6Z is again a quantum leap over ours.

Have a great holiday everyone, drive safe and see you next year!!

Get out of my post dude... I've driven 2 C6Z06s and both modded. My local buddy Rich (DoingOK on here) has a C6 Z w/ boltons and some other jazz making 480+ to the rear wheels. Yes it's very very fast. But that's not what this thread is about.

Would you like a cookie for driving a new one?

Here's one in my garage...

And here's me putting a harness bar in it and cutting it up!

Do I get a whole cake now?

My neighbour has a 2003 MY auto vert and he thinks he has a fast ride. He even came up to me and asked if I wanted to race his car on the highway. The guy really is just a poser and has no idea about vettes let alone what a Z06 is all about (especially one with 370 rwhp ) The C6 Z06 may be what it is but we don't have slouches on our hands either.

I don't think he was trying to brag - he was just stating that the difference you felt from the base corvette is similar to the difference you feel from the new C6Z to the C5Z. No cake for you.

Personally I have driven both extesivly. I will stick with a T1 preped C5Z over the C6Z anyday. the T1 prep is much faster though corners, more stable, lacks a bit on top end. However, the C5ZT1 has much lower lap times then the C6Z.

When Chevy comes out with the C6Z T1 or ST ( Super Touring) suppension package and differnt brakes, that may be diffent. But untill then.

Now Back to Brains thread.
