Default Check Engine Light

Newbie to the C5. Have went through all the OptiSpark, water pump seals, etc on the C4 (95 Polo Green A4, still own). I have a clean 35K 02 Magnetic Red A4 that is displaying the "Check" light every time the tank gets near empty. It's throwing code P0442. I know this code can be a gas cap problem, at least one of the possibilities.

I did a search on the forum and it doesn't appear to be too common a problem.

Any ideas

How about getting a new gas cap? That's what I'd do.
