A4's with 3.42 gears...what's gas mileage like...mine sucks
Been averaging about 22.5 mpg with the new gears...had it tuned twice and still running low mileage numbers. I didn't expect to get 27/28 like I did with 3.15's but damn, 22.5 seems awfully low...any thoughts
PS: I have a Z06 intake, LT headers, hi-flow cats, Corsa's, 3200 stall and a Vararam (not that any of this should have a negative impact on my mileage)

How much of a difference did you notice between 3.15's and 3.42's?

Last weekend we went to Turkey Run State Park (Indiana) from Chicago. Sunday we left Rockville (50 miles west of Indy) and drove 36 to Springfield. We got 30.2 MPG with the top up (at 63 MPH) to Springfield, in the rain.
After seeing the Lincoln Museum we headed to Chicago. We got 28.8 at 73 MPH to the big town.
6 spd. 00 vert, 56,000 miles.
you can keep them Tayodas................

When my car was bone stock(3:15's) I got 16 city and close to 24 highway and stayed the same until I put in a 3600 stall with 3:42's. Now I average between 14-16 city and about 22-23 highway. I don't considerate that to bad, but most people say they get better than that even with 3:73's.

With just a cam package and headers (367 rwhp) I was getting 28-29 mpg on the highway and 19.5 - 20 mpg in the city.
Now with AFR 205s and much larger fuel injectors (423 rwhp) I'm getting 27 mpg on the highway and 18.5 - 19 mpg in the city.

I don't go by the instantaneous gas mileage on the dash. I usually divide the total mileage by the total gallons of gas I fill ( not sure how much accurate my method is) but after all is said and done- I usually get about 15-16 mpg's in the city. When I had my 3.15's, I get around 17-19. That's with spirited launches though.

3.90s, SS3600 and a few other goodies. 19mpg if I keep my foot out of it - 16mpg if I don't.
I got a constant 16mpg

The difference with the gears and the higher stall was noticeable not only off the light but from a rolling start (even launching it from 60 mph). Decided on the 3.42 as I thought it was the best compromise..gives you seat of the pants lift and you can still run it on long trips and not have to rev the sh%t out of it on the highway.
Regarding the gas mileage, thanks for the input guys...gonna have to take it back to my tuner and see if we missed something in the edit

I have Headers, intake, 3.42's and a sy3500 and on a trip from Seattle to Michigan last summer averaged just over 27mpg for the trip (2100miles). That includes some VERY spirited driving while in the mountains.

With headers and Haltech I got 30-31 with 3:15s. After H/C, hi-stall, 3:42s and other goodies(see sig) I now get 25-27 on the road. This is with fillup gals., not computor.

Ease off on the go pedal and use the cruise control and do the math. You numbers should improve. Then go back to the way your enjoying it now, knowing what you could get.
