Default Transmission Problem?

On down shifts to third I get occasional gear grind and now I'm also getting them going down to 2d. Not all the time, seems to be RPM/Speed related. I am new to the Z. It is a 2002 with 19,000 miles. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

I think you have a problem, do you have warranty on it.

You are looking at a rebuild! I just had mine rebuilt by GM two weeks from the factory warranty running out! It was 14 hours of labor and 400.00 in parts that I would have had to suck up! Total would have been 1800.00 roughly. So, in the meantime I bought an extended warranty from Dennis Fitchner Chevrolet for four more years and 32K miles for insurance sake. It was $800.00 for the GMPP warranty.
The problem with the transmission is that GM put to light weight of synchronizer forks in the trans and are replacing them with more substantial pieces.
There are other threads on this and is a well known problem for the 6 speed trans. Alot of the other members recommend rebuildin it with all aftermarket heavy duty parts to assure problem doesn't rear its ugly head again.
