The V1 isn't BETTER than anything else...don't be fooled, It does have a feature that is pretty nice, and that's the arrows that point to the radar. I've ran both V1 and Escorts together in the same car and there's not a nickel difference between them. V1 has a few more false hits then the Escort, I run both and feel just as safe with one as the other.

I like them too, but if you pay attention you can tell the direction with an Escort also.....If you pass a bridge, large road sign, or even a big truck and the beeps get faster then slows down as you pass, then the radar is behind you, granted...not as slick as the V1, but still useable. The Escort will do something that the V1 won't do. If you switch to the expert mode, you can track multiple radar and get a strength reading on each hit. That's a cool feature..

I run a valentine and like it i don't have much current experience with Escort. My real question, CB5300, is what are you doing running a radar detector in Virginia? They are ilegal in Virginia.

I have heard that the Valentine is harder to detect then the Escort. Is that true?

My V1 is useless in the city or around traffic lights. Beeps non stop. But on the highway...

I do not like the way Valentine advertises. They seem sneaky to me and thus I do not trust them. In the most current ad of theirs they are quoting Car and Driver ads from a couple of years ago and comparing their unit to the Escort 8500 NOT the newer Escort 8500 X50. If they were so good why not compare the Valentine to the newer X50?
The Escort gives me great range and never a false beep.

goto e*ay and see that V1s resell for brand new price-minus(anyupgradeOfFirmwarePrice)-minus 30 to 40 bucks

ie - strong resell value

why? cuz they work. nuff said - be happy you have the best

but yeh i like the idea of the escort jammer/bluetooth version to compliment it....

and stealth paint!

I agree. I had a Valentine 1 and I don't think they are all they are hyped up to be.

I agree that the V1 is probably not any better then the other top of the line radar detectors. The advantage is knowing the direction of the radar and how many hits you are getting.

This has saved me a few times when I past a LEO and there was another one ahead of him or when I passed a place that has a radar gun with no operator to slow traffic down and all of a sudden instead of a count of 1 there is a count of 2 because a LEO is sitting there too.

I bring this same point up in all these V1 vs X50 debates too.

Well thanks for clearing everything up fellas. I'm more confused than ever! It's got a money back guarantee, so I guess I'll try it and see if I like it. I guess if I dont like it, it will be because I got a free ticket out of the deal!

I'm sure you'll like it. Both the 8500 X50 and the V1 are fine detectors, and always run neck-and-neck when it comes down to their actual detection capabilities.

For myself, all I'm saying is that I don't think the arrows are worth $100-$130 more money.

This happens all the time in NY/NJ. Arrows really help.

Default Where

do you mount the Valentines? They seem rather large to me. I have friends who swear by theirs. As for arrows and counts...it seems to me that if I'm getting a strong warning I'd slow down whether it's from one or more, front or back. Maybe I'm missing something. Ideas?
