Default Removable Hard Top on a Convertible?

I'm looking at a listing on autotrader here:

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...=en&cardist=94

and it says it's a convertible with a removable hard top I've never heard of that before. Does that mean it doesn't have a soft top at all?

It probably has an aftermarket hard top. I use one for racing, you just fold down the soft top to put on the hard top

So, on average, how long does it take to install/remove the hardtop. Is this a viable alternative to a roll bar at the strip?

It is easy to put on & take off (with two people), but most tracks will not consider it as a replacement for a rollbar.

I don't think it has a removeable hardtop I think someone typing it up made a mistake. If it had one I am sure the seller would have pics of it. For it would be a pricey part not to advertise. My .02

When you added the Hard top were there any problems with color matching? How much was it to add this aftermarket mod

The VIN # is for a convertible.

Caravaggio charges $3295.00 plus what the autobody charges to paint.

Mine matches perfectly.

Dpending on the inspection process, you are correct. Last time at the track, when the inspector was writing down the info, the conversation went like this...
Inspector: "Year?"
Me: "2001"
Inspector: (He looked-up from writing on the clipboard) "It's a Z06"
Me: "No"
Inspector: "The 2001 hardtops are Z06's"
Me: "Well..."

Then he walked over & looked at the tires & then engine & forgot all about the 'Z06'. He said, "You are going to kick some butt today."

When the hard top is on does it cause any issues with the finish on the convertable top compartment. It seems becasue it is resting on that lid it may vibrate on the finish of the car and that could cause noticable marks when the top is of and the convertable top is being used.

Nope...it lays along the same black strip as the convertible top.

Mine did rub on the passenger side at the rear, approx. 2" slight mark. I had to add a 1/8" thick strip of weather stripping around the rear at the base.

I have been mistaken for a Z06 on many ocassions, especially at first glance.

I have the Smoothline, but I am in the process of making a fully custom one from a Z06 chop (a serious undertaking). When I am done - hopefully soon - I will be selling the Smoothline. It is in better than new condition because I had a fiberglass fabrication expert reinforce the mounting brackets. Those that own the Smoothline know that the brackets are the weakpoint. It is currently painted Spiral Grey, and it is the deluxe model with the black headliner and glass window with defrost.

Has anyone looked at both of these manufactures to give me any info on both of them.

My 1966 Corvette was a convertible and I also had a hardtop that came with it. A friend of mine has a 1972 with the same configuration..

1996 was the last year that GM made a hardtop for their convertibles.
