I got my column lock recall notice in the mail...
...and I have already installed the Column Lock Bypass. To think that I would bring my ride into the dealer to get the "fix" done makes me laugh hysterically.

Lots of discussion on this letter in C5 Tech. The updated notice involves the removal of the lock assembly, installation of the K harness and no PCM proigramming.
Guess this is what GM may call the final solution.

My letter only said to bring in the car "IF" I experience a problem for a free fix. The offer expires in 2008.
I've installed the CLB but still had the message WAIT 10 SECONDS THEN REINSERT KEY display. Engine started but I couldn't get any rpm out of it before it would cut off. Happened about 3 times in a row (within a minute). Finally I decided I should wait the 10secs. to see what happened. Car started. Never happened since.
Oh, before I bought the car used the previous owner had the Column Lock recall work done by his dealership when the car was only a couple of months old.
..rickko..

I got my recall notice two days ago. I also got a claim form with it for reimbursement if I had paid to have the repair done that was the subject of this latest recall notice. Today I found my invoice and receipt for the COH CLB that I installed in July of 2002. I'm filling the form out and sending them my claim for the cost of the CLB first thing tomorrow!

Got my letter too - nice of them to say call us if you have a problem instead of taking care of it in the first place. Glad I have the CLB installed.

Yep, you got yours and so did the other 500 people that have posted this same exact thread...........
I'm sick of people whining about this. First they want GM to do something, and now they are, and people are STILL complaining.

Yes putting in a CLB is straight forward - one source for the CLB unit is Thunder Racing: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&sid=220#P2280.
There are also some great online instructions with pictures at: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=24
