Minding my own business
Just had to share this.
Nice weekend so I took the vette out for a little exercise.
Doing the speed limit and here come a mini cooper.
I call this one a mini want to be.
This guy passes me on the right, going like 70 there is a lane, but the speed limit is 45.
I proceed to get up on 290 which is a major highway between Houston and Austin.
Goose the vette and run up to 70 leaving the mini behind.
Look in the rear view, here he comes hell bent to pass a vette I guess.
Getting closer by the minute.
I easy up to 80, I know, no racing on public roads. Hey I'm not racing just getting away from a nut.
I look in my mirror and see the mini now moving to the media and start swerving around.
Like he thinks he going to try and pass on the left. No lane, just dirt and grass.
Now I'm going 90 + and got away from that mess.
Don't know were he went, really don't care.
I just don't get why someone has to mess with vette's.

It's a given ... every time I drive through town someone wants to race ... even rusty old Ford Escorts. I think ignoring them is the best way, 'cause I just know my luck, the moment I open up, I missed the LEO on the side ...

Now, I do my very best to ignore idiots like that. Except for the nutz in the SUV's and Pickups that try to tailgate me around an offramp. But that's an entirely different story.

My question is what would he have done if you'd have maintained the speed limit? He passed you once on the right in an area that it was legal to do so although maybe at an illegal speed. My guess is if you maintained the speed limit he'd have passed you again and been gone.
I don't understand the guys on this forum that post stories about "I was just trying to get away from a nut" and I did 90 in what was probably a 55 or 65 zone. Try as you might justifying streetracing is not an excuse. Maintain a reasonable speed and they'll be gone but your ego will be bruised for life cause a Mini smoked you huh?

It does happen. The key is to ignore them.
The other day I was going down a rural road doing the posted speed limit (40mph), and someone in a mid 80s Nissan pickup comes flying up on me. He is riding my bumper, but I held my speed to 40. Eventually he passes me and speeds on ahead. Never saw him again.
I have to admit it would have been fun to school him on vette performance, but it just wasn't worth it.

While I agree that ignoring them and letting them pass is the best solution, I must also defend the action of "getting away from a nut". Every situation is different and sometimes we may feel we are in danger or jeopardy. Some people don't want to pass, they just want to harrass ! If the driver of the Mini is so consumed with passing a Corvette that he would drive into the median to do so, then by all means get the hell out of his way . There are those situations where someone will ride your bumper and refuse to pass even when you give them every opportunity, these are the people that scare me.

When we first got the Vette, I ran anything & everything who tried. As we modded the car with more & more power & better handling & ran at the track more often, playing on the street just didn't seem worth it. There is no real winner, but potentially there are losers including innocent by-standers. Just let 'em pass.

I had a guy in a red ZO6 pull up next to me at the light here in Henderson NV (For those that know the area near Wayne Newton's house) and start really revving the engine. His was modded, mine is a stock 01 with an auto. I am a competitive guy but I rolled the passenger side window down (he was in the slow lane) and yelled you win!! He rolled his down and started laughing. He took off aggressively and I just admired his car... This happened like 2 weeks ago, and it was kind of hard to not mess him a little. But that was a big fish and I could seriously feel the ground vibrating with his upgraded cams. I would have had my a__ handed to me.

When people try to challenge me, I find that going slower is much better than going faster. IN your post you were up to 90 mph in a 65???
25 mph over, and ripe for a good ticket...
Wouldnt it have been better to allow him to pass, by going slower.

i get it all the time in the C5 coming home from work-no they cant see the uniform, tinted windows. they do it on S cooper street (for those locals) where there is little traffic, and almost no sober traffic at 1:30-2:00 am. i just let em pass and ignore them. after about three or four yo yo's back and forth they usually go away and find someone else or twice now a cop has seen them and stopped em. what gets me though, is ive had it happen in my bad weather/crappy car-96 dodge neon. completely stock as far as exhaust and wheels and stuff goes. looks like your everyday neon no "souped up" (although i still dont understand that on a neon) and again on S cooper street this looser in a fart cann'd 240SX tries it over and over and over....
