Default Engine turned off while driving a c5?

On my buddies 2000 C5 when he would get on it and reach 85-90 mph then put it in neutral the car would turn off. No power anything! steering locks up and everything but when he would put t back in gear it would gain power back sometimes but he usually has to restart the car. Weird right. I dont know if anyone else ever experianced something like this. But any info would be good. And he did bring it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong because it doesnt do it all the time so they cant figure it out.

thanks
matthew

You might try the tech system, they may have the answers you're looking for.

85-90mph?? you might want to watch it posting speeds like that as they have a tendency to get threads locked. just fyi.

Why would you get up to 80-85 and then put it in neutral?

Check for codes, ASAP, to help you narrow the culprit down: It is possible that the ignition switch may be faulty. However, the culprit sounds more like a faulty speed position sensor. Hence, performing a manual diagnostic to uncover any presenting trouble codes will help. Let us know how it all turns out for you.

Not something that I would want to do, even if it kept running. What is the point of doing that (just curious)?

had a similar issue happen at a much higher speed though.

missed the 4 - 5 shift and bounced off the limiter once or twice....immediately pushed in the clutch and let off the gas.

car shut off instantly.

had to pull over to a stop before it would restart either....odd.

alright listen, my buddy just got his car and did not know how to drive it that well. Either way a corvette should not do that even if you put it in Neutral. I came for help and suggestions obviously some people think they are big shots b/c they can drive better. But the ignition switch was a good guess and the car is fixed now. Thanks to all of you that helped.
