Extended Warranty is GOOD
I have been without my 01 vert for about a week now.... All I can say is thank god I went for the extended warranty....
I took the car in because it was leaking a little oil out of the read dif. At first I thought it was the much talked about dif seal. In fact, the oil was coming out of the gasket that seals the rear end to the 6sp tranny housing.
My service adviser called last week to tell me that they found a potentially bigger problem. The shaft that goes from the drive shaft to the rear end (it passes throught the tranny and into the rear end) would need to be replaced. There was a failed gasket seal (scoring on the shaft) where the tranny meets rear end. This was causing the two fluids to mix. I'm told this is a bad thing.
My adviser went on to tell me that they could have just moved the gaskets back and made a new seal but he didn't want to do that as it would just delay the inevitable. I'm very impressed with my local dealership at this point in time. The new shaft comes this week so I might get the car back early next week.
Has anyone else had this leaking/shaft issue?
Right now my car sits with the rear end and tranny spread out all over two benches. Very depressing to see.

I had the gasket between the tranny and the differential go out in mine about a year and a half ago. Luckily, there was no other damage other than the gasket. Had it replaced under my extended warranty - was about a $650 job just to fix the gasket. Good luck getting yours repaired. Glad they did a thorough job in looking the car over.

I've had my diff. seals replaced too!!! That was around 18000 miles..
But I did use my extended warranty when the fuel pump died at 38000 miles! That job was around $1300 to $1500! Glad I had the extended plan!!!
It sucks to think something will fail... but its a Chevy... and you gotta have it!

I bought GMPP Major Guard when my C5 was 35½ months old for $845.
On December 2 (last Friday) I had repairs done at Chevrolet dealer that amounted to $3114.02.
The GMPP covered every penny of that repair.
It was a good move to have gotten that GMPP in August 2004..
