z06 calipers on a c5 frc
my 99 frc has about 45000 miles on it and the calipers look like ****. thought about paying the $400 or so to put the z06 ones on. found out that sears is selling a powder coating system for only $160. just wondering if anybody has powder coated their calipers using this system?

I havent used it but Im going to try this guy out. Doesnt cost much more than the sears system and since I dont have any experience in doing powdercoating, Id rather have someone that knows what they are doing hook me up. Just another option for you.

Either that, or you can buy a can of red rustoleum or whatever color, and a can of clear coat. Just use some chapstick to cover up the corvette letters and when the paint dries take off the chapstick with a razor blade and spray on the clear coat. Its cheaper, and looks good. A lot of forum members have done it.

I changed my stock C5 calipers with the red Z06 calipers and it made a huge difference in the look of my car. It looked very food and really enhanced the look of my Y2K rims. You should be able to pick up a set of Z06 calipers from a member or vendor on here for cheaper than $400 however. Goto parts and ask around. Just my 2 cents.

My advice is to just clean up the old calipers (may take a little effort, but will be worth the work) and then get some of the epoxy based caliper paint and paint them red yourself. Very easy job and the looks are great. Plus it will save you a lot of cash.

You can do it yourself with paint for $5-$45 in materials and some elbow grease. Close to the look of the powder coat with a lot less hassle and cost.

If you do want to powder coat however, just remember the part about putting them in the oven at 400 degrees for a specified time. Also, there will need to be high temp tape masking and silicone hole plugging involved too in order to keep the powder out of where you don't want it. PC looks great and is very durable but it is a PITA to do. HTH

My 99 Coupe with hand painted calipers:
My 03 Z OEM calipers (I did paint the carrier bracket, looks so much better.
3 hours and $20 in Folia-Tec high temp caliper paint. Do it your self, save a bundle and you'll have the satisfaction of a job well done. You also get to clean the insides of the wheels and wheel wells while your at it.
Not a bad way to spend sometime with your car.

Just go to Autozone and buy there caliper paint kit, it's a wopping $15.00 bucks, take of the wheels, clean the brake, dry the brake, and paint the brake. Put on at least 2-3 coats and use some sandpaper to scrape off the COVETTE letters and it's perfect.
Here's mine after about a year.
Here's one at 65mph.

I painted mine - but I'm having a set powdercoated locally. If you paint them by hand - you don't HAVE to remove them from the car. If you have them powedercoated - you will have to remove them, pull the pistons, and then to re-install you'll have to mount them and reassemble the calipers and bleed the system.
If you're familiar with the steps and comfortable with performing the work yourself - great. If not, you'll have to pay someone to do it for you - which means additional cost. If you paint them on the car - all it will be is to clean the calipers real thoroughly and have it!
Either way - I wouldn't go out and buy the Z06 calipers, you'll still have to install them and bleed the system. Good luck!
