Thats cutting it "too close" Stu, to be sure! So glad you and the vette are
OK!

That reminds me of a day when I was stationed in Germany, I was on the
way home traveling on the autobahn. When I noticed something unusal in
the north bound lanes. It was a car, a Porche, doing 360's down the
autobahn!! And the road were dry! I could see him across the median
doing his circular dance. I didn't see how it turned out but the next morning
on the way to work there were no signs it ever happened!

Glad you came out OK ! I had a similar spin at 75mph on black ice. My car did about four 360's down the freeway and stopped facing oncoming traffic. With my heart pounding I slammed it in gear and did a 180 in the right direction and got going again. It took a while to calm down. If I had gone off the road the median was so steep and deep I probably would have rolled. I'm glad both of us made out alright. It looks like your Vette made out alright too!

I run on Nitto...yes ..not much tread...
...but I remember distincly looking at the the crown in the outside lane and puddles on either side for a long distance....

the water and the wide tires are going to hydroplane...

...then the other part you notice on dry roads with really wide tires is that they grip and pull left or right depending on the slope(s) of the surface...

I think when the edge caught the abrupt traction on the crown was enough to initiate the sudden movement off center...

close indeed...
...Im thinking I may go back to the spot and take pics...

I looked back and I left a bunch of HUGE ruts...

you discribe the 360's as a "dance"...

That is interesting...because as potentially disasterous as the incident was...
...it must have been strangely beautiful to watch...

...hope its the "LAST DANCE" like that though

Wow.... Glad you're OK, Stuart..... you experienced what I fear most in my years of driving Vette's, well, maybe at least after getting speeding tickets..... your adventure reminds us all that wide tires and water can be a dangerous formula.... Stay safe....

Stupid question, but????

Did Active Handling or Traction Control ever come on or were you to busy to avoid a disaster and not notice?

I know "car skiing" comes on really fast without warning. For those that have never experienced, you don't want to, even if no traffic anywhere. Years ago (68) was blowing down I-20 in a heavy rainstorm in my GOAT and same thing.. no warning whatsoever. Did a few 360's before departing the concrete into the grassy median. Finally a culvert was the end of that ride and the end of the front right wheel and suspension parts left dangling. No cell phones then, no "AAA" to the rescue, so a passer by stopped and took 4 wet soaked scared to death kids to next town and summoned a wrecker and had to call for someone to come get us.

Wow! Glad to know you're okay and the Corvette too. I had something like that happen to me once when driving my 69 Corvette in a blizzard. It sure scares you! May I suggest a set of Goodyear F1 GS D3s? Have them on mine and they stick to the road like glue, wet or dry.

Another member glad to hear you survived without incident! Close calls really wake you up huh?

As for the pics, any reason we didn't get to see a close-up pic of the driver's seat? Is it too much for us to handle?
