Integrated C5 Cluster SHIFT LIGHT LED and ACCESSORY (nitrous) LED.
Well.. Max (Max01GreenMachine) and I decided to come up with something creative to fill the blank warning light spaces in a C5 dash cluster. Neither of us have ever seen this done before. So one day after work, we stayed late into the evening to play and go crazy. We started off fully disassembling the entire cluster on the bench and went from there. The results are in the pics below. We drilled and installed 2 LED's in the blank spots. Top Green is a shift light and the lower is a Red LED for my nitrous arming. They are installed into an LED mount then mounted into the newly drilled holes in the cluster light blockoff plates.
First, the shift light function in the cluster must be made functional by using a PCM editor software, such as LS1 Edit. The 1-4 skip shift light becomes a shift light at a programmed RPM value (6400rpms in my case). We basically rewired the circuit on the cluster to a 12v relay coil and LED. A relay must be used due to a grounding issue that will still cause an LED to light up all the time when hooked directly to the PCM output. It's a 12v switched ground circuit controlled by the PCM. Step down resistors also must be used to properly power the LED without blowing them.
The Red accessory (nitrous in my case) LED is wired out of the cluster with wires to the accessory. The RED LED is dimmed down using resistors to be an indicator, and not as bright as the shift light.
I don't have a lit pic of the shift light, but it is a BRIGHT GREEN that lights the entire driver's side of the cockpit pretty. You KNOW when to shift.. hehe.. And yes it all works perfectly.. I hit the shift light a few times today.. This installed in my car and Max's is next
Full PICS can be seen here... http://www.fixedroof.com/shiftlight.htm
Pics of the finished cluster
Nitrous System Armed LED lit up
All Apart on the bench.. hehe
Even got bored and made a homemade column lock bypass while waiting on epoxy to harden..hehe
More to come.. heheheheheh....
