Default Dyno Tuned my stock Z.... Baseline #'s/Tuned #'s inside..

Took my car over to my friends at Speed Inc and strapped the car on the rollers today (only mod is a Donaldson Blackwing) for a baseline run.

Baseline Dyno #'s : 360.64 rwhp./ 350.02 rwtq.

After Jim Moran did his magic tuning the car and a few runs later

Tuned Dyno #'s : 376.68 rwhp./ 362.98 rwtq.

I am very happy with the results to say the least, I also had my limiter raised to 6800, CAGS eliminated and have my fans turn on a bit earlier.

A/F ratio stayed right at 12.9-13.0 for the entire run.

Sweet. I'm at 367 RWHP with a Blackwing, Bassani X-pipe and B&B PRT's and my AFR's are HORRIBLE down to 10 by 5500 RPM's I'm told a good tune could get me to 375 or so.

How much did the tune cost? I live in southern Illinois and there are no tuners in St Louis. Kansas City or near Chicago are the nearest I know of.

Great numbers. A tune really does make a difference.

Looks like it is time for me to get a good tune.

358 RWHP on my base Dyno.

Hi MVR -

Having an edit was the best thing I did to the car - I got similar results -

My "after tune" was 372 RWHP - that was before the CAI - I had the car retuned after the CAI install, but no dyno numbers after.

Congrats - great numbers!

best regards -

Was the change across the board or just at the peak?

I picked up across the board, from beginning to end, I have the sheet on my desk at my office (Im at home typing this), I can post the the exact results on the low to high end when I get back there. I was supposed to hit the track today but we have rain, going back tomorrow, Im hoping to definately hit 11's (I ran 12.07 with clutch problems and before tuning) I have flushed the clutch/hydro fluid and have the extra HP from tuning so Im hoping to hit my goal.

Im not sure what the charge would be, my good friend manages the shop and Im also friends with the owner not to mention helping out there sometimes. If you are interested give Larry a call at 847 891-0767 and tell him that I told you to call, maybe he can do a little something for you. They are located in Schaumburg you can also check out the website at www.ls1speed.com

MIKE,

Very nice baseline numbers and GREAT additional power that JIM GOT YOU. Jim Moran also has tuned both my bolt on 03 Z and 02 Z b/f the Supercharger set-up. Needless to say he is an outstanding tuner.

My dyno numbers on my 02 Z were very similar to yours and you obivously got a nice and healthy one and these 02 Zs seem to be very STOUT. Maybe the engine builders were paying close attention as they put in a new bump stick and few other tweaks for 02!!!!!!!!!

I have no doubt you will get that 11.9x time slip on Sunday at BYRON! BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

From what I've seen a "tune" nets next to zero on a factory car.
Factory tune is not improved much.
With Mods, Air intake, headers is where the tune comes in with the more air flow, a tune is needed, Don't be suprized if you end up with
364- 365. Not worth the money till you get some mods.

This is not necessarily true, alot of the stock Z's that dyno are waaay on the rich side with a/f ratio's in the high 10's low 11's I would say that picking up 12-15hp is not the norm but picking up 5-10 is pretty common (now I know some pick up nothing or very little) I also like the fact that my limiter is raised to 6800, my CAG's is eliminated along with the torque mgmt. and my fans come on a bit sooner, these things dont make dyno #'s but I feel increase the drivability of my car.

I have an 02 and I elected the HP Tune. My Z was too rich so my tuner leaned it out and gained 12hp. I'm learning now that tuning is trial/error. It all depends on the tuner and his patience. Time is money. Some Z's are plus/minus 10hp which is a big difference. My $02.

HP tuners software (similar to LS-1/LT-1 Edit) much more complex than a Hypertech programmer, it allows you to change virtually every that has to do with engine management. It is what most shops use to tune cars on the dyno.

Good numbers - once again the value of a good tune can't be overstated!
