Will prices go down for the C5?
I'm kind of interested in buying a coupe or Z06 in two years or so.
I've been seeing prices in the $20,000-$35,000
will the older models (97-99) go to the $15,000-$20,000?!!
Mileage isn't a problem for me as long as the car runs well and been maintained correctly by the previous owner.

Prices will go down, but not at an alarming rate…..I’m guessing about $2-3k per year…considering the C6 is now in its 2nd year…that’s not too bad. 
PS…This afternoon I saw a C6 vert driving down the street and it did nothing for me.
When I see a C5 my heart still skips a beat…and it has nothing to do with angina.

Price drops are normal for the majority of cars. There was a lot of panic talk about a huge decrease for C5's right before the C6 came out but it looks like it never happened. I usually buy used & if I was looking for a vette I wouldn't think twice about buying a nice C5. They were great when they came out & still are today.

Unfortunately for for all of us C-5 owners, yes our values will continue to drop. Cars are depreciating assets. It will be many years from now before their values will level off or even see an increase.
I do have a gut feeling that C-5's will never hit the lows of C-4's or C-3's. The engineering advancements and their simplicity are miles beyond the previous gererations.

They took a good drop when the C6's came out so I figure they will drop normally now.

No, unlike every other contemporary mass-produced car in the world, the values of used C5's will continue to appreciate until they cost more to buy than a new C6 or C7 when that comes out.
However, seeing as you seem to be in tune with this interesting market dynamic, we could probably work out a deal where you could send me, say, 25K today and in 5 years time I'll sell you a '99 at today's market price.

Here's the way it looks to me.
The improvements in the C5 over previous generations of Corvettes is big. I was without a Corvette for many years and my plan was to get another C3. Preferably another LT-1 like my 72. However, took a test drive in a C5 and that was all it took. A huge improvement in the C5 over my 72 LT-1. But keep in mind I like ALL Corettes. If I had the money and the space I'd have one of every generation. Anyway, my point is the C5 is one darn good Corvette. I'm convinced a C5 will, in general, hold it's value better than most C4s.
Second, when a C5 is compared to a C6 the question of which looks better is up for grabs! My personal opinion is as time goes by the C5 is going to go down as a classic style. The car looks so good I don't think it will ever go out of style. My point here is the C6 looks fine to me, but I don't think it's style puts a C5 to shame.
Third, as the price of new Corvettes goes up it should help C5s hold their value. Some people, for whatever reason, are not going to shell out sixty grand for a new C6 roadster. But find a mint C5 roadster and that person may have no qualms at all about paying twenty grand for a C5 roadster. I would say, those C5s that are well maintained, have low mileage and are in excellent condition are not going to be cheap to buy.
My advice to someone who is thiniking about buyiing a C5 is if you find one you like and can afford to buy it - buy it and start enjoying it. I can't see a huge price drop in the near future for these cars.

My magic 8 ball is in the shop for service, but my basic instincts tell me it will be decades before C5's start appreciating - if ever.
To answer the question - YES, they will go down, even if shrink wrapped and hermetically sealed in an ozone free environment!!

yep. but not as quickly as other vehicles. do you realize how much car you are getting for your money???
let see:
new/slightly used honda: 20-25k
new/slightly used toyota: 24-29k
used c5: 20-24k
no comparison., strong, solid, powerful, easy to maintain, really easy to look at, almost 30mpg and mine is supercharged!
i kick myself for not pulling the trigger on my purchase 3-4yrs earlier. i wasted so much time, i mean fun time!
i have never looked for excuses to go for a drive in any other ride ive owned.
dont worry about pricing in the future, just pick one out, and enjoy it. you wont regret it.

Depending on the mileage, you can already find some early C5's in that price range. Yes, the prices will go down as time marches on.

Yea they will....
drop, just like any other car that you drive off the lot. However, it seems the C5 holds a little bit of a higher level value then most other sport cars. It's how much your car is worth to you. Right now my 2001 is priceless to me, it would take a hefty offer from someone to take her away from me!

In 1998, and I saw a C5 in person, it was thee most beautiful street car I had ever seen and I thought one day I gotta have one! I bought my C5 from a guy who had to have a C6. Then earlier this year, the first time I saw a C6 in person, I thought, is that it? We went to a casino this weekend and they were giving away a C6, I thought that if I won it, I'll let my wife drive it and I'd keep my C5! The dealer here in town has 15 or more C6s on the lot for sale... Is the value of C5s heading down? You can bet on it. Are they great for the money? No question! Live like you are dying and buy one today if you don't have one!
