there does appear to be some rather stupid answers...

C5 corvette could potentially be the stupidest, ugliest car they’ve produced. Driving it, hitting a small bump. I might as well be ramming it straight into a sink hole.

I pulled and pulled until I was sure the hinges would snap!! I couldn't belive that my new baby would have such a poorly designed part.

And to think that all my new freinds here on the best forum in the world were holding out on me, laughing behind my back, waiting for the punch line to the cruelest joke in the world to play its ugly hand!

So, what else are you all holding out on?? Is there really no spare tire? Or, is one hidden somewhere I don't know about? Are the tires on my car really run flats?? Does the traction control really work??

Oh well, guess its time to get out the WD-40 !!!!!!!!!

Russ....
Baffled me at first too. Opening the lid stopped at 45 degrees, finally just kept pushing and it opened up to 90 degrees and stayed. Designers fumbled on this one as hinging from the rear (like every other car I've ever owned) makes more sense so the passenger can actually get into it as well.

The spare tire is located just behind rear passenger seat. They are run flats right down onto the rims. The traction control is actually just a dash light that doesn't do anything. :-).

HA! Today I opened my console all the way for the first time. Guess what? I discovered that there's a 12V power socket in there that I couldn't previously see...
This forum truly is a great place to learn...

Some genius joined the forum to post a comment about how he dislikes the C5, and he did it by bumping a 13-year-old thread. Brilliant.

AND...................somehow tied the opening of the center console to "ramming it straight into a sink hole."

A 13 year old thread about the center console hinge. What a Hoot !

On the upside, I was one of those people who didn't know the center console would open more than 2 inches.

This was one of the most entertaining posts I've read in quite awhile. After reading all of the posts, including Evil Twin's explanation, I haven't figured out how this design makes the car safer?? I have no doubt that the federal government sees it differently, but would someone please explain to me how I am safer while driving, I try to open the cover and have to fumble around pulling on the cover to enable it to open 90 degrees? I have to agree with Devil Dog,...not sure just how that design will prevent injuries or save my life. Just sayin".
