I'm deciding between the Donaldson Blackwing, Varam Ram intake and the Haltech Stinger.

Which will provide greatest gain with Header and Exhaust mods?

A&A put the Hall Tech stinger on mine when I got my cam and LG LT's on my 2003 Z06. I've used the blackwing on my old 2001 Z06 and the Vortex rammer on my current C6 and old 98 coupe. I like all three. However, the only one that I was able to compare with the original piece was the Vortex. My 98 went from 13.3@107 to 13.0@110 with that change at Carlsbad Raceway in So. Cali back in 1999.

Vararam all the way. Someone finally took a page out of the superbike build book. Suzuki has had Ram Air Induction on it's GSXR since 1996. It works. When a proper ram air box is placed on an engine you will hear a whine similar to supercharging under acceleration indicating that it has significantly increased the air flow to the point that a charge of air is on stand by for the engine to use. I have yet to hear this in a normally aspirated Corvette produced by anything other than a Vararam. In addition the gathering of air from the nose which is clear of any heat source results in intake air temperatures very close to ambient air temperature.

I have the K&N filter in my Vararam. I noted an increase in airflow with the replacement filter. I didn't have any fitment or quality issues. Obviously I can only speak to my particular item.

The Vararam has the best design as illustrated by Twil1ght. Too bad the build quality isn't better, but it still works great. I recently bought one of their upgraded street filters and it works good and fits tight. The first filter from 2 years ago had some quality issues and I trashed that one. I also have the performance filter to use on the track. The real neat thing is the +26 rwhp gain guess I stretched that a little.........

I had one on my last '04 Z and it had none of these issues. It went in great, fit great and sealed great. Cool people use the Vararam. The rest are just posers. [fonzie]AAAAEEEEEEEEE[/fonzie]

Vararam:

Harder to install, fit is not the greatest, newer baja foam filter is pretty good. You'll need to check it periodically to make sure everything is aligned and oil it after 2k miles or more.

With all the above said, the "Vararam" is the best if you want power period!

Halltech TRAP with no problems and a nice power boost over the stinger. I would suspect very similar results to a VRAM.

It nice and easy to tune too but not easy to clean. Thank god only about once a year!

I am toying with the idea of buying and modifying a twin intake and having the filters just out of line inboard of the screens. Nice and cool, dense air slamming them at speed.

Has anyone with other than the VRAM guys, tried this kind of a setup?

Tony from tony's corvette suggested to me to forgo all three and go with the Callaway honker system. Anyone here use the honker and what power gains was netted?

I went from the zip tie mod to Vararam to Halltech Stinger. Settled on the Stinger because I wasn't happy with the foam filter on the Vararam (didn't filter well enough). To tell the truth, there was no seat-of-the-pants difference in any of them...that I could tell anyway.

To answer your question though, probably the Vararam.

Vara-ram all the way. I hear K&N's making a direct fit replacement filter for it that should be out sometime this month. Defintley gonna be inline for 1 of those.

I also have the Honker. The quality is excellent, it fits great, not diificult to install and looks good, too. I can't give you dyno comparison but right after installation I went to Englishtown and was having traction problems I didn't have previously.

Went from a Blackwing to a Honker. Great fit, great finish and easy to install. Any true cold air kit is better than a Blackwing or anything else IMHO! My run at the track once installed made me a believer.

I installed my Honker intake while still on the dyno. If I remember correctly, I picked up 11HP and 13torque to the rear. It works.....
Everything else stock.

I have the usual intake and exhaust mods on my 03 Z, a Blackwing, Bassani X-pipe and B&B PRT's, with horrible AFR's (read no tune) I'm at 367RWHP and 355 RWTQ. Guess you'll need to form your own conclusions
